RPL-BeardedMag

British online publication Bearded Magazine sets out “to generate coverage for independent labels & artists regardless of genre, background or how fashionable they are

They do just that via features, interviews, reviews, news, videos and their editorial policy isn’t driven by any other factor other than if they feel the artist merits the support. They are the latest, via guest contributor Leland Gill, to take a listen through the new album by London’s rapper and producer Apex Zero.

“Reality Provoking Liberation” is his debut solo album, out on 28th October, having previously released and performed live as part of the duo First and Last, who are still very much in force, and the group The Pantheonz on Zenn-La. Apex Zero’s reputation for conscientious lyricism delivered with a fierce flow developed in these early days and is still very much evident in the new album

The article opens “While other artists brag about changing the game, Apex Zero aims higher in his mission to wake up the world and educate them on the many corrupt systems in place today. In Reality Provoking Liberation, he pulls no punches in his lyrics as he spits about current inequality and organising to forge a better world” which in itself is as good a summary of the overall vibe to this album as any yet made. It’s a mix of this and other key factors which has made this such an impressive debut solo release, one picked up by a wide cross section of the media, and you can read more about the magazine’s thoughts on it HERE

The album launch event will take place upstairs at The Vibe Bar, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL on Saturday 7th December from 8pm – 1am. Also appearing will be Caxton Press, Iron Braydz, DJ A.Gee (Itch FM) and host Peaches. Price is £5.00 on the door and the nearest tube is Aldgate East. More about the venue can be found at www.vibe-bar.co.uk

You will also be able to hear Apex Zero live on radio shortly, starting with tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd October on Reprezent Radio from 8pm with Tarek, on Saturday 26th October from 8.30pm with DJ Sammy Jay on Itch FM, and with Mr 13 on Bang FM from 10pm on Tuesday 29th October. Edinburgh based physical & online publication The Skinny Magazine covers a broad spectrum of entertainment including theatre, comedy, art, literature, going out / events, travel and music.

Their contributor, Bram Gieben, likes his hip hop and is the latest to review the new debut solo album by London’s Apex Zero – “Reality Provoking Liberation” – which releases on 28th October. The rapper & producer would have been best known previously as part of the duo First and Last (still very much alive & kicking) and also as part of the group The Pantheonz of Zenn-La, renowned for their frenetic live shows.

Opening with “Apex Zero’s raw, manifesto-driven raps have a lot in common with the edgy, paranoid psy-ops chat of Triple Darkness and M9. Chaotic Revolt in particular captures the anger and violence inherent in the legacy of the 2011 London riots, and throughout, the beats draw on the rich tradition of string-led, cinematic sample-craft of RZA” it is another review picking up on the range of political & social issues covered in his rhymes and delivered in such a way that “Throughout, Apex Zero’s lyrical content is angry, literate and intelligent
