Released in May 2020, “Panacea” by London rapper Phoenix da Icefire and producer Husky Brown was nominated for “Best Independent Album” at last year’s AIM Awards.  Postponed due to the pandemic, the rescheduled launch event takes place at Brixton Jamm on Friday November 12th as a joint headline with fellow London rapper and producer Ramson Badbonez who will be showcasing tracks from his recently released album “Lead by Example”, both out on New Dawn Records

This new AA side single by the duo has been released today to mark the event.  The Schifrin-esque soundtrack of “Shake Things Up” fuels a barrage of high octane bars unleashed from a fully loaded verbal armoury, while a sublime blend of choice beats and turntablism laces the specially commissioned remix of “Dark Rainbow Light” courtesy of prolific US producer and DJ Tone Spliff whose multiple credits include work with Recognize Ali, King Magnetic, Ruste Juxx, Melly-Mel, Vic Monroe and many more.

It’s a welcome return to the hip hop fold for rapper and producer Az Izz from the legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, known for their early work with Wu Tang, The Fugees and D12 and who counted Pace Won and Rah Digga among their numbers.  His new album “Dopeliss” is out July 3rd through New Dawn Records, and the first single taken from it released today.

The self produced “Gettin’ It” features East Orange luminary Drift, and over the funked up percussive beat the pair trade claims for what’s theirs   while also bringing a little extra traditional rap beef to the table, in this case a historic tussle with Royce da 5’9″.  The accompanying video was also released today, shot in the back yards of Brick City.

Digitally distributed by Ingrooves / Universal and available from Apple, Amazon, Tidal and Spotify

As a member of Triple Darkness, Phoenix has long been regarded as one of the most gifted lyricists from the UK.  In the new album he addresses some of the most pressing current issues covering the environment, mental health, racism, knife crime and aspiration in a highly creative and skilled narrative.  Husky’s productions are a rare and fresh fusion of contemporary hip hop, electronica, dub, bass, r&b and soul, resulting in a dynamic and highly impressive soundtrack.

First single released today is a double A side already enjoying heavy international airplay. “Cosmic Soul” has the South London rapper on a shamanic journey over a hard hip hop beat, while “Seasons of You” is a soulful r&b floor filler featuring Natalie May (as heard on Rudimental’s “Sexy Sexy”), remix courtesy of Soul Brother Juice.   Available to stream and download from APPLE, AMAZON, DEEZER, NAPSTER, TIDAL and also streaming on Spotify and Soundcloud

Relaunched last year after a 15 year hiatus, hip hop label New Dawn Records have confirmed today that they will be releasing a new EP and album by New Jersey’s lyrical marksman Tru Trilla over the next few months.

In an official statement published this morning, the label commented

“We relish the prospect of working with an artist of Tru’s caliber and style which represents perfectly our direction of travel as we enter an exciting new phase since re-launching last year.

We at UrbanElite PR have of course worked with Tru Trilla previously in 2015, then as a member of the 050 Boyz group as they released the classic album “Everything 050”

The worldwide media coverage and radio airplay reflected the appreciation and quality of the rhymes skills, lyricism and dope production, and ultimately led to both DJ Eclipse & DJ Premier inviting them as guests on their Sirius XM shows.

Tru’s new releases feature his 050 Boyz sparring partners Prince Ak and RIQ, and also include many of his long term Brick City affiliates on vocal and production duties, beginning with the new EP “The Seymour Chronicles” which releases on March 17th, the precursor to “God of Barz” which drops May 29th

Produced entirely by another New Jersey native Joey Loax, the EP represents the classic east coast sound while Tru, Prince Ak, RIQ and Fly Kwa all deliver their trademark fierce rhymes, hooks, hard bars and lyricism. An already heavyweight under card before the main event later in the year, the label have just launched a video trailer for the EP on Youtube

Taken from the EP, the singles “Warzone” and “20 to Life” will be released during February

Hip hop crew Belles in Monica have today released their new EP “Natsukashii”, the second in their ‘Lazarus’ series and follow up to April’s “Y’All in Meltdown”.

Out on New Dawn Records who relaunched this year after a 15 year hiatus, journeys are taken to the dark underbelly of inner city drug squalor in “Smoke Filled Rooms”, industry machinations are exposed in “That All U Got?” while the booming production of “Skitzophentic” provides the backdrop for a tirade against generic conformity.

“Venom” attacks multimedia’s clandestine misinformation schemes while the mood is switched in “Hip Hop”, a funked up, sample laden ode to the culture. A soundtrack incorporating tight eclectic beats, turntablism and filmic themes concludes as the final credits roll with “Resistance is Futile”, a bonfire of the vanities in a metaphorical dystopia.
