The UK’s Clash Magazine which covers most forms of music have just published their Rapture & Verse monthly column, a summary of the key news and releases in the world of hip hop.

Written by Matt Oliver, it includes news on The Doppelgangaz, Verbal Kent, Pete Cannon & Dr Syntax, Benji Boko, Livin Proof, Brownstudy, Q Tip & Busta Rhymes and many more, including news on the new Matt Maddox album Righteous Fury” which releases on 25th February on Red Phone Records / Seven 13 Music.

The news piece summarizes “Matt Maddox grits his gnashers and strikes down with ‘Righteous Fury’, blood vessels busting over street sweeping fanfares, tear-blotted/folk-fuelled beats and hook ups with Tragedy Khadafi, Sicknature, Vanderslice and Reef The Lost Cauze going against one another in some sort of thugged out gym.”

The Kansas based MC, originally out of Long Beach south California, gets set to take to the road next week in a series of dates taking in NYC, Atlantic City, Chicago, North & South Carolina, Wisconsin, Philadelphia and Virginia. One of Germany’s premiere hip hop & rap music magazines Backspin published their regular roundup of upcoming releases, and included in it was the new album “Righteous Fury” by Long beach MC Matt Maddox, now based in Kansas.

The regular feature opens (approximate translation)

Following on from their recent interview with the Kansas based MC, American online music magazine Soundparlor reviewed his sophomore album “Righteous Fury” which releases 25th February on Red Phone Records / Seven 13 Music

Drawing from his origins in Long Beach southern California, the album reflects his musical influences in terms of classic hip hop with a mix of the more raucous approach of a Rage Against the Machine. The review picks up on his own substantial contribution to the album and the mindset behind it:

“It’s a deep collection–19 songs–yet comes in at just around an hour, meaning Maddox favors quick hits rather than extended jams. And this preference suits his heavyweight, aggressive lyrical flow.” while acknowledging the production and features from artists such as Tragedy Khadafi, Reef the Lost Cauze, King Magnetic, Nemesis, Sicknature of the Snowgoons, C Lance of Jedi Mind Tricks, the UK’s Edd Bundy and many more, including the turntablism of DJ TMB

Long Beach rapper Matt Maddox, currently based in Kansas in America’s mid west, releases his second solo album Righteous Fury on 25th February, four years after his solo debut “Asylum Artistry”

Been some time in the making, however he’s been on the heavy grind recently, releasing two official videos and a single in quick succession and putting together a live performance schedule for the year including an appearance at SXSW, a tour with Slaughterhouse and dates in the UK, Europe and Australia.

The ex Guerilla War Tactix member is recognized for his trademark raw & raucous delivery style, a verbal onslaught of wordplay and lyricism while working with a range of quality international producers.
