London’s Guestlist Network is both a monthly newspaper and online magazine covering a wide range of musical genres, providing news, reviews and features on new music artists and releases as well as covering the live circuit, concerts, clubs and events happening around the country.

Their writer Matt Watkins took time out recently to speak with Kansas based MC Matt Maddox as he prepares to release his sophomore album Righteous Fury on 25th February.

They discuss his origins in Long Beach California and his earliest work as part of the international crew Guerilla War Tactix, the writing process involved with the album and the range of producers and featured artists such as Nemesis, C Lance, Sicknature, Vanderslice, Skammadix, Tragedy Khadafi, Reef The Lost Cauze, King Magnetic and Adlib, his touring plans for the year which will take in both coasts, Canada, UK, Europe, Japan and Australia and his thoughts on other aspects of the music industry – artists he rates, life as an independent artist, the representation of hip hop today and much more

West London rapper and producer Apex Zero sat down with journalist Ben Bradford recently for British online magazine Subba Cultcha.

They discussed the making of his debut solo album Reality Provoking Liberation and the underlying theme and concept of the subject matter, as well as working with his fellow partner in “First and Last” rhyme OMeza Omnsicient, Hasan Salaaam, Iron Braydz, Amy True and Invincible Armour. He explains why this has been the culmination of years of work beginning in 2010 and his writing techniques, whether as a lyricist or a producer, and his plans for the future.

It has been a highly impressive debut release, and the journalist opens the article with his own thoughts on the album, and these excerpts provide the flavour:

“listening to Apex Zero’s fierce and powerful lyrics on ‘Reality Provoking Liberation’ its clear he’s trying to unite people and to fight against the common enemy, the state, the Government , instead of against each other”

“As Apex spits on the rough as a sawn of shotgun to the face of an opening track ‘Shackled By The Pound’…he attempts to rally the unfortunate and the oppressed throughout the album, giving messages of support and encouragement, and he’s asking for a revolution throughout the album”

Look out for the release of his new video “Absolute Zero” this week with further media coverage coming soon leading up to his album launch party upstairs at The Vibe Bar, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL on Saturday 7th December. Apex Zero will be performing with a live band and will be joined by Caxton Press, Iron Braydz, DJ A.Gee (Itch FM) and host Peaches. The night will run from 8pm – 1am and entry is £5.00 on the door. A great night of hip hop kick starting the Xmas holiday season early.
