Cannibal Ox legend returns with 3rd solo album

Although mostly associated with Jamaica, Queens, Vast Aire has lived in every borough of NYC, and it was his time in Harlem as a teenager which sparked the career of one of hiphop’s most respected artists.

Performing in many of the city’s underground spots, it was in 1994 that the 16 year old met fellow emcee and best friend Vordul Mega, and the pair would go on to form Cannibal Ox.

Vast and Vordul began collaborating with legendary Company Flow producer El-P, the result of which was the classic debut album “The Cold Vein” in 2001, an album which helped launch El-P’s Def Jux imprint.

Vast Aire has a long history of working with different artists on various projects. As a member of the group Atoms Family, he followed up Ox’s debut release with the launch of “The Prequel”. As a member of The Weathermen, which included Copywrite, Aesop Rock and the late Camu Tao, they released “The Conspiracy” in 2003. In 2004, his debut solo album “Look Mom…No Hands” featured MF Doom, Aesop Rock and Sadat X with production from Madlib, RJD2, Blueprint, Ayatollah and Da Beatminerz.

Following 2005’s collaboration with DJ Mighty Mi “The Best Damn Rap Show”, he re-united with old friend Karniege to record “Empire State” in 2007 under the group name “Mighty Joseph” before releasing his second solo album “Deuces Wild” the following year, an album XXL Magazine placed in their Top Ten Albums of 2008.

Over the past 10 years he has featured on tracks and albums from Aesop Rock (NY Electric), Jean Grae (Swing Blades), Wu Tang (Slow Blues), MF Doom (Super Friendz), and toured the world with Lauren Hill, Wu Tang, The Roots, Black Star and Boot Camp Click. In 2010 he put pen to paper on a new deal with Man Bites Dog Records, making him labelmates with Copywrite and Killah Priest, and the new album is the first of many planned projects.

The album is full of the cerebral rhymes those accustomed to this New York “ghetto spokesman” would come to expect, intelligent, witty and pushing the boundaries of the imagination.

With production from Ayatollah, J Zone, Harry Fraud, Kount Fif and Thanos, and a UK/European tour planned for autumn 2011, the new album is set to reinforce his position as one of hiphop’s finest ambassadors and capture a new audience, beginning with the first single Nomad.

CHIMA
ARTIST : CHIMA ANYA

SINGLE : DOUBLE A SIDE “NEW DAY ft Soweto Kinch / IT’S THE MANNER ft Jehst

RELEASE DATE : 14th December 2009 available from iTunes, Amazon, 7 Digital, eMusic, Rhapsody

LABEL : Phoenix Down

http://www.myspace.com/chimaanyaLondon’s Chima Anya debuts in the UK with his Double A Side single “New Day (ft Soweto Kinch) / It’s The Manner (ft Jehst), but while new on the block, this young MC’s packed a lot into life already.

Having spent part of his formative years growing up in Glasgow’s Castlemilk estate, he moved south to study and become a qualified doctor, working now in the heart of London. While studying he became heavily involved in the UK hip hop scene, with him performing regularly at Soweto Kinch’s acoustic hip hop nights in Birmingham and forming GTA out of Oxford. Not been slow to make some moves with support slots for KRS-1, Amp Fiddler and Flava Flav, he’s been getting demo tracks round notable radio djs:

Mary Anne Hobbs “Chima’s a dope ass MC”
Ras Kwame “futuristic hiphop, we’re looking for the doctor to come and save hiphop!”
DJ 279 “there’s hope yet for UK hiphop”

as well as getting some more airtime attention from others at Choice, Kiss and 1Xtra

On “New Day”, Chima teams up with old sparring partner Soweto Kinch. Known mainly as a jazz saxophonist, this MC is a two time MOBO winner (best jazz artist), his debut album “Conversations with the Unseen” was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2004, and though Dizzee Rascal took the crown, that year saw him pick up two more BBC Radio Jazz Awards.

“It’s the Manner” features a man needing little introduction to UK hip hop fans. Jehst has had a long and respected time in the game, co-founder of YNR with Tommy Evans and a long term involvement with Low Life Records, his albums “The Return of the Drifter”, “Falling Down”, and “Nuke Proof Suit” has made him an established figure in the UK and overseas underground scene. He jumped on the joint while overhearing Chima’s sessions at his own studios.

Produced by long term affiliate Astrosnare, the release is a diverse concoction of some of the UK’s finest talent with a bangin accompanying video for “New Day” also set to do the rounds.

Taken from the new album “NEW DAY” due for release in 2010.

DEEPROOTED ALBUM CAMPAIGN

DEEPROOTED SINGLE “CRAZY” OUT 24 AUGUST
ALBUM “D.E.E.P.R.O.O.T.E.D.” OUT 28 SEPTEMBER
DEEPROOTED

Cali’s DEEPROOTED were formed in 2004 by ex Battle Axe artist Mr Brady and local San Diego rap artist Johaz, to be joined later by producer DJ Artistic and female vocalist Just Brea.

Moving out from the studio to take their brand of electro soul laced hiphop to the masses, they were joined on stage by San Diego’s Urban Dynamics Crew Dancers, CeSe and Boosie, and developed a reputation as one of the hottest tickets in town, a must see at every venue.

Think The Roots mashed with The Fugees, and that’s the kind of funked up business we got goin on here.

For 3 consecutive years from 2005, DEEPROOTED were picking up various awards for their initial recordings and live performances in San Diego, and their first Vans Warped Tour in 2004 resulted in being invited to rejoin the nationwide circuit in 2005 & 2007.

They remain the only artist to score a straight 10 outta 10 three years running at the renowned Urban Network Conferences, and have opened for Public Enemy, The Roots, Common, KRS-1, Lupe Fiasco, X Clan, Wu Tang, Kurtis Blow, The Boot Camp Click and many others.

In the studio they have collaborated with Diamond D, Blu, Killah Priest, Rock of Helta Skelta, Exile, Jake One, Rhettmatic, Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Abstract Rude and OHNO, some of whom appear on the new album. Theyve had music featured on X Box and Play Station video games, and enjoyed support from some of the hottest urban stations in the States, including Jammin Z90, Blazin 98.9, Jazz 88.3, KJLU 88.9 and Power 106.

They have still found the time to do voluntary charity work, helping raise money and awareness in relation to the genocide in Darfur, as well as several local youth initiatives in schools and colleges.

With two previous albums released independently, they have now teamed up with Clear Label Records, headed by Souls of Mischief’s Tajai Massey for the new album’s global release. Also watch out for European tour dates in the autumn in support of Souls of Mischief.

CLR is a perfect home for DEEPROOTED, with the label’s policy on finding and taking on only the highest quality hiphop, r&b, soul and dance artists, providing them with a great support infrastructure while also allowing them to breathe, develop & retain their artistic control. It’s an organization operating on the premise of partnership with positive input from all sides, and will ensure that CLR becomes a name to watch on a global scale over the next couple of years.

DEEPROOTED’s introduction to the UK comes via their self titled album which displays a range of styles drawing from the best of traditional hiphop values, soulful vibes & off the scale contemporary production.

First single, CRAZY, is a big bass heavy slammin banger, with the mic gettin worked hard by the MCs and Just Brea providin the killer hook in the chorus. Watch for this at tv, clubs, radio and press. There will also be some choice cuts on the special promo cds being serviced for the djs that will keep all crowds happy.

Late summer will come the follow up, CELEBRATE b/w FADE, two tracks served chilled from the best bars in town. Again, be on the lookout for these at tv and on the radio stations.
