Brick City’s Tru Trilla is back at it with another choice cut, the fourth single from his new album “XVI : Return of the Gods” out soon on May 31st through New Dawn Records.

“Turn That Down” is the latest display of mic skills and production levels evident throughout the upcoming release, galvanised by a heavyweight line up of guest featured artists from around the States.

Veteran NY State producer Frost Gamble makes another appearance following last month’s ‘End the Day’ featuring Ruste Juxx and Julius Luciano of Shoe Gang. His stylish soundtrack platforms a showcase of slick and conscious bars delivered in customary fashion by masters of the craft. This time standing shoulder to shoulder with the Newark native are Detroit’s Guilty Simpson and Brooklyn’s Skyzoo, icons of the game sharing their cerebral pearls.

Like its predecessors ‘Sun Rays’ ft Reks & Lakim Shabazz, and ‘No Joking Around’ ft NB.S. & Recognize Ali, the new joint packs a ferocious punch with another salvo of raw energy for the senses.

Veteran NY State producer Frost Gamble fans the flames coast to coast like butta’ on toast. Unleashed on the beat, Tru trades robust verbal blows with Brooklyn’s Ruste Juxx before Shoe Gang member Julius Luciano gets in on the action. It’s standard family business for the brother of KXNG Crooked, as the west coast warrior duly plants the Long Beach flag through a barrage of bars delivered at breakneck speed.

To mark the fifth anniversary since re-launching in 2019, New Dawn Records have today released the new single “No Joking Around” by New Jersey rapper Tru Trilla.

Following last month’s ‘Sun Rays’ featuring Reks and Lakim Shabazz, this is the second to be taken from the forthcoming album “XVI : Return of the Gods” out in May.

On the new cut, the Brick City veteran has recruited another Garden State native in the form of Jamal Nueve, originally affiliated with the legendary Flavor Unit crew as DJ Jamal #9. Now resident in California, the multi credited producer has delivered a funk fuelled banger laced with ferocious bars from lyrical marksmen in the heavyweight division.

The gloves are off as Boston’s Flash and V Knuckles of N.B.S. join Tru and Recognize Ali on the rampage, exchanging trademark punchlines as combinations thrown in a barrage of body blows to would be contenders. Rugged and uncompromising, high frequency lyrics with no prisoners taken, the result is undisputed.

Released today through New Dawn Records, the new album “Urban Testimony” by Justo the MC and Edinburgh lofi hip hop producer Brelstaff.

The entire theme is documented in a deeply personal narrative depicting events before, during and after the Brooklyn rapper’s curtailed and troubled time studying at Clark Atlanta University.  Details unfold of a conflicted mind on a potential escape route to academia straying rapidly on a hedonistic path and the consequences incurred.  While regrets are clear, the spirit of resilience prevails.  Emerging scathed but undaunted and emboldened by second chances, the final scenes present a renewed sense of optimism for the future with lessons duly learned. 

A fascinating and brutally honest account is relayed through trademark slick rhymes and deft lyricism, the art of storytelling set to a suitably atmospheric soundtrack provided by Brelstaff’s blend of soulful chilled lofi hip hop beats and ambient electronica.  Essential listening.

Out today through New Dawn Records, “Cold Start” is the fourth single taken from the upcoming album release “Cautionary Tales” by Anthony Kannon and Frost Gamble, and finds the award winning Ithacan rapper in aspirational mood.

Through a free flowing stream of quick fire rhymes, the desire to break free from the shackles forged by the code of the streets through the power of the pen is clear.  The optimism of ambition to emerge from the rat race focused and unscathed is the narrative, underpinned by Frost’s uptempo soundtrack fused by soulful breaks and beats.

As reported recently, the pair have also just announced two upcoming live events to mark the release of the album on October 20th.  On Thursday October 26th, the pair play The Osborne Taphouse in Winnipeg followed by a further show on Saturday November 18th at Deep Dive in Ithaca where Anthony will perform the entire album with a live band and special guest Justo the MC, while Frost provides a DJ set.

Released in May 2020, “Panacea” by London rapper Phoenix da Icefire and producer Husky Brown was nominated for “Best Independent Album” at last year’s AIM Awards.  Postponed due to the pandemic, the rescheduled launch event takes place at Brixton Jamm on Friday November 12th as a joint headline with fellow London rapper and producer Ramson Badbonez who will be showcasing tracks from his recently released album “Lead by Example”, both out on New Dawn Records.

Originally established in 1996 and relaunched in 2019, hip hop label New Dawn Records have packed a lot into the past 12 months.

The most recent development announced today is the launch of their new Bandcamp platform where, to begin with, their entire digital catalogue has just been made available to download.

Originally broadcast live on July 15th, Brick City rapper Tru Trilla sat down with host Sim of Washington DC’s popular Youtube Channel “The Front Stoop”.

In line with the channel’s focus on addressing broader current issues affecting society and hip hop directly, the pair first discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic both in a personal and professional context, and the veracity of information being provided to the public at large.

While playing tracks from the album, the subject of conscious lyricism and the role it plays within the wider forms of contemporary hip hop was considered and compared before the interview moved onto Tru’s history in the New Jersey scene.

He explains the origins of his group 050 Boyz of which he is a member with Prince Ak and Riq, the source of its name, and how this led to building with Shade 45’s DJ Eclipse and DJ Premier before touching upon his early affiliations with Naughty by Nature and Lords of the Underground.

Of course at the heart of the interview is his new album “God of Barz” where he breaks down the concepts, subject matters and construction, and speaks on his history and future working with the album’s producers from the States, UK and Europe.
