The “Veteran” EP released on November 18th was the first official collaborative project by NY State rapper Tone Chop and Winnipeg based producer Frost Gamble.

This despite the fact the pair were originally rivals in Binghamton’s rap battle scene during the 90’s who would then go on to be partners in rhyme, tagging and remained hip hop allies over the years.

Though continuing to collaborate on occasional tracks, the pair pursued solo careers especially in the light of Frost’s relocation and subsequent re-focus on production. This led them to work individually with artists such as Tom Gist, J-Ro, Sadat-X, Jinx da Juvy and Rakim’s son Tahmell, however it was Frost’s contribution to Seven 13’s “God Bless Dope Rappers” compilation earlier this year which was the catalyst for the new EP

Also released through Seven 13 Music & Ent, “Veteran” is a warm up to a new album planned for 2017, and includes the single “Leave It Alone” featuring Ruste Juxx, a tribute to Sean Price.

Earlier this week having just released their new EP “Veteran”, NY State rapper and Winnipeg based producer Frost Gamble spoke with west coast writer Dylan Fleming for the online publication One Avenue.

With an introduction headline “The classic boom bap era sound is revived with a vengeance” they discuss a number of subjects including how the pair first met, the current hip hop scenes in Canada and NYC, the rap battle leagues given they were originally rivals during the 90’s and of course the EP itself.

The UK’s HHK Magazine (aka Hip Hop Kings) has been running a popular “25 Facts” series for the past few years where artists provide exclusive and previously unknown information about themselves and their upcoming new release.

Latest in the series is a focus on NY State rapper Tone Chop and Winnipeg producer Frost Gamble who, despite having been rap battle rivals in the 90’s and subsequent partners in rhyme & tagging, release their first collaborative project on November 18th.

In the feature they reveal how they came by their artist names, the recording process of the EP, their most rated producers and Emcees and their involvement in the rap battle and graffiti scenes.

From the EP, and available to buy now from iTunes, is their first single “Leave It Alone”. A tribute to the late Sean Price, it features Ruste Juxx and Nobi.

They followed that with a bonus cut “Being A Boss” which uses the Jadakiss and Nate Dogg joint “Time’s Up” for the hook, and is available to download free direct from the audio stream on Soundcloud.
