050-StreetsConnect

West coast online magazine Streets Connect sat down with New Jersey hiphop group 050 Boyz recently in the wake of the release of their album “Everything 050” and their subsequent appearances on the Rap is Outta Control Show with DJ Eclipse and LFHQ Show with DJ Premier.

In what is a wide ranging interview, the trio of Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK discuss many aspects regarding their careers. They address their history with Treach from Naughty by Nature and DoItAll from Lords of the Underground, their involvement with the Garden State Greats movement and how this proactive representation of New Jersey remains a core principle today.

They then speak about the recording process of the album and how their sound, which has roots in the Golden era of the 90’s, is enjoying something of a revival and developing a new generation of fans.

Their thoughts on how the traditional hip hop culture is represented today are addressed before moving on to subjects such as their renowned live performances, the current scene in New Jersey and their future plans for their label 050 Entertainment.

050-PopCulturez

It’s been just over 2 weeks since New Jersey’s 050 Boyz released their debut album “Everything 050”.

The Newark trio of Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK hooked up with long time associate Clinton Place to produce the entire album, and given their name reflects the Garden State’s area code, invited many more local emcees to feature on the release. Included in the ranks are Treach (Naughty by Nature), DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), Fam (Rottin Razkals), Lakim Shabazz, Tha Advocate, B Wells, IB the Druid, Trilly Trills & Fly Kwa

The UK’s WiseRap also makes an appearance in what’s from start to finish an album full of high octane beats and raucous lyricism designed to break necks and smash the decks.

Latest review comes from PopCulturez whose primary base is in the UK but who also operate worldwide covering a range of musical genres. READ THE FULL REVIEW HERE

Saturday 7th December marked the date for London rapper & producer Apex Zero’s album launch party at The Vibe Bar in Brick Lane.

Reality Provoking Liberation was the debut solo album for the member of the UK hip hop duo First and Last, and it released on 28th October to wide critical acclaim from media around the country

In conjunction with local live promoter Hoochinoo Events, Apex put together a strong line up for the night, showcasing tracks from his album with a live band, and there were also performances by Caxton Press, the latest member of the city’s Triple Darkness crew Iron Braydz, DJ A.Gee from Itch FM and expertly hosted by Peaches

The event was filmed by south London cameraman Jimmy Chiba of Chiba Visuals, who as well as catching footage of the performances took time out with Apex himself who speaks on the event, his album and the support he’s had. flyer

Hopefully 2014 will be as good as 2013 for touring hip hop artists to the UK and Europe, and this line up announced for early next year certainly indicates a promising start.

Redphone Records, Seven 13 Entertainment & Deep Concerts Media have come together to present a new tour featuring Queensbridge vets Nature & Blaq Poet, Detroit’s next name to watch out for (& younger brother of Royce da 5 9) Kid Vishis, and current Hawaii resident by way of Long Beach southern California Matt Maddox.

Also on tour will be DJ Mickey Knox who mixed Nature’s mixtape Ashtray Effect 2 earlier this year. As the tour name suggests, Matt Maddox celebrates the release of his new album “Righteous Fury” in good company, as Blaq Poet gets ready to release his new album Blaq Death, & Vishis prepares to launch a new mixtape shortly ahead of a new official album due in 2014. Next year should also mark the long awaited new studio album from Nature

The tour is in the early stages of organizing, with 4 dates already confirmed :

Barcelona 18th February
Madrid 19th February
Tenerife, Canary Islands 20th February
Zarragoza 21st February
