Out today through recently relaunched label New Dawn Records, the new single “Smoke Filled Rooms” b/w “Skitzophonetic” by hip hop crew Belles in Monica.

Already on international rotation, “Smoke Filled  Rooms” mixes electronica, turntablism and South Asian flavas to journey into the dark underbelly of the inner city with rhymes depicting a vision of drug squalor hell, while the booming kicks and soaring strings of “Skitzophonetic” provides the dramatic backdrop for a verbal tirade against generic conformity.  Bonus cut “That All U Got?” invokes the spirit of Ali & Foreman leaving industry machinations slumped in the corner, towel thrown.  The art of storytelling has returned on a release spanning all eras.

Hip hop label & UEP’s parent company New Dawn Records are marking their re-launch after 15 years with a series of specially commissioned single & EP releases over the coming months.  Having signed a distribution partnership with US company INgrooves, they are currently adding new artists to the roster.

The first single “Y’All Under Surveillance” b/w “Meltdown” by Belles in Monica dropped today, taken from the EP “Y’All in Meltdown” releasing April 26th.  Available for the first time to stream and download, the original vinyl releases were championed by multiple stations including BBC Radio 1’s Evening Sessions host Steve Lamacq, featured in various print publications including Billboard, iDJ and Blues & Soul, and were regular entries in DJ Magazine’s specialist club charts.

Baltimore rapper M.I. and New Jersey producer DJ Cutt – aka Constant Deviants – released their new album “Omerta” on June 28th this year.

They originally formed in Brooklyn and spent a week back in the area at the time of the release appearing on various radio stations promoting the new record. This time a themed release with metaphorical references to the mafiosa underworld, they adopted the roles of Luciano & Lansky in a series of sonic vignettes employing the traditional art of storytelling while retaining their trademark sound.

The most recent review appears on page 77 in the current issue of French printed publication Jazz News Magazine which is in stores now, and is included with coverage on an eclectic range of artists including Eric Clapton, Mndsgn and Brooklyn’s The Golden Grass. Los Angeles group Horseshoe Gang, the younger brothers of Kxng Crooked (aka Crooked I), are set to release their new album “Anti Trap Music” in early Spring 2016 on Seven 13 Music & Entertainment.

West coast online magazine Streets Connect sat down with New Jersey hiphop group 050 Boyz recently in the wake of the release of their album “Everything 050” and their subsequent appearances on the Rap is Outta Control Show with DJ Eclipse and LFHQ Show with DJ Premier.

In what is a wide ranging interview, the trio of Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK discuss many aspects regarding their careers. They address their history with Treach from Naughty by Nature and DoItAll from Lords of the Underground, their involvement with the Garden State Greats movement and how this proactive representation of New Jersey remains a core principle today.

They then speak about the recording process of the album and how their sound, which has roots in the Golden era of the 90’s, is enjoying something of a revival and developing a new generation of fans.

Their thoughts on how the traditional hip hop culture is represented today are addressed before moving on to subjects such as their renowned live performances, the current scene in New Jersey and their future plans for their label 050 Entertainment.
