Released in May 2020, “Panacea” by London rapper Phoenix da Icefire and producer Husky Brown was nominated for “Best Independent Album” at last year’s AIM Awards.  Postponed due to the pandemic, the rescheduled launch event takes place at Brixton Jamm on Friday November 12th as a joint headline with fellow London rapper and producer Ramson Badbonez who will be showcasing tracks from his recently released album “Lead by Example”, both out on New Dawn Records

This new AA side single by the duo has been released today to mark the event.  The Schifrin-esque soundtrack of “Shake Things Up” fuels a barrage of high octane bars unleashed from a fully loaded verbal armoury, while a sublime blend of choice beats and turntablism laces the specially commissioned remix of “Dark Rainbow Light” courtesy of prolific US producer and DJ Tone Spliff whose multiple credits include work with Recognize Ali, King Magnetic, Ruste Juxx, Melly-Mel, Vic Monroe and many more.

Out today, “Wolves” is the fifth single to be taken from the album “Lead by Example” by Ramson Badbonez, his debut as a producer which released in August through New Dawn Records.

Here Ramson returns to mic duties alongside fellow London rappers Phoenix da Icefire (ex Triple Darkness) and Cyclonious, all cutting a swathe through fallen kingpins and street tyrants in a barrage of heavy verbal artillery.
On the specially commissioned remix they are joined by renowned UK rapper Genesis Elijah.  Produced by Frost Gamble, originally of NY State and now operating out of Canada, the combination of highest calibre beats and rhymes makes this an authentic killer cut.

Ramson will be showcasing a number of the album tracks at London’s Brixton Jamm on Friday November 12th as part of a joint headline show with Phoenix da Icefire and Husky Brown who will be performing their own album “Panacea”.  Others appearing on the night include King Kashmere, Black Chronical and Prospects, hosted by DJ Jazz T and Peaches. Tickets are available online at www.gigs.hiphop

The new single is available to download and stream on all digital platforms and stores including Apple, Tidal, Amazon, Bandcamp & Spotify

ATM-BritishHipHop

London journalist Taytula Burke jumped on Skype recently to speak with west coast hip hop group Horseshoe Gang in the lead up to the release of their new album “Anti-Trap Music” out on April 29th through Seven 13 Music & Ent.

As part of a broader feature piece for the UK online BritishHipHop.com, the interview focused on the meaning behind the title and the wider issue of lyricial content prevelant in various forms of the genre.

As in previous interviews, the group acknowledge the role artists such as Kendrick Lamar and J Cole have played in bringing the art of lyricism back to the table, but here again explain that one or two individuals cannot do that, or represent a movement alone. The inference being greater unity between like minded artists to help “clean up the industry” on a far larger scale

It’s an ongoing debate in the world of hip hop generally, but what’s certainly true is that the various evolutions have created very specific markets, often territory to territory. Apples & oranges.

Obviously now gearing up for this, their fourth studio album, the group are still conducting further interviews with local, national and international press & media, the results of which you will see shortly, and there is also tentative word of an album launch event – stay tuned.

RPL-PopCulturez

With the release of the debut solo album by London’s hip hop producer & rapper Apex Zero, “Reality Provoking Liberation”, an example of the impressive diversity of media interest is displayed in two reviews over the past 24 hours

Online magazine PopCulturez is a multi genre publication covering news, reviews, features by rock, country, pop and hip hop artists. Their review includes the opening salvo “From the outset, it is clear that Apex Zero is taking his music to an uncompromising place, with political rhymes coming at an unrelenting pace.“, the article then continuing to note “while many rappers are caught up in the streets or tales of club-hopping, this young MC looks further due to his studies of socialist philosophy, politics, and African history….and has also taken inspiration from a number of other British MCs, with strong hints of names like Terra Firma, Lowkey, and Kashmere seeping through his styles.

Summarizing “Apex Zero comes off like Britain’s answer to Killah Priest to show that real, hardcore hip-hop with a political mindset still exists in 2013” you can read the entire review HERE

RPL-UndergroundHH

Meanwhile, UndergroundHH, a website dedicated to UK hip hop and championing both new and more established independent artists on the scene featured the album, again drawing comparisons to British & international artists such as Immortal Technique, Wu Tang, Dead Prez, Skinnyman and Klashnekoff, and comments “Apex delivers stone cold pen game fighting back at the system, the roots of population control and the endless routine of a 9 to 5.” and then featuring his videos for Power Source, Chaotic Revolt and Our Times.
