050-BritishHipHop

A few weeks ago in the lead up to the release of their new album “Everything 050”, Newark hiphop group 050 Boyz jumped on the phone with long running UK online website British HipHop.

Their writer Ethan Everton spoke with them about how the group formed, and their own earliest memories of hip hop and the artists who inspired them the most to pic up the mic back in the Golden Era of the 90’s.

They moved on to discuss how the album was put together, from its initial concept through to the recording process, the subject matter addressed in their lyricism, and the representation of the New Jersey scene with so many local featured artists also appearing throughout the release.

The topic of discussion then diversifies into their thoughts on how the Garden State’s hip hop profile has grown over the past few years, and the reaction and support of a new generation of fans to a sound that is derived from a classic age.

The group speak on their intent to help inspire and promote new local emerging artists, in line with their long standing approach from the days of their involvement with Treach & Fam’s Garden State Greats movement of 2004, before further outlining their feelings on what needs to develop for the greater good of hip hop and rap music more generally.
