UK journalist Matt Oliver writes a monthly column for Monolith Cocktail titled “Rapture & Verse”

It is a monthly round up of all news, EP, album and single releases, videos and event information from the hip hop scenes in the UK and USA.

Written by Matty Oliver, the monthly Rapture & Verse column which appears in the UK’s Monolith Cocktail is a round up summary of all the news, single releases, album releases and fortcoming events from both sides of the Atlantic.

In the column just published there is news of the line up announced so far for this year’s Boom Bap Festival taking place in Suffolk 29th – 31st July. Among the many performers will be R A the Rugged Man, A-F-R-O, Task Force, Blade and a special one off show by the reformed for the day Phi Life Cypher.

There’s news on releases by Bumpy Knuckles, Ras Kass, Crooked I & Statik Selectah, Elzhi, Anderson Paak, Jazz T & Cappo and many others, including the new album “Anti-Trap Music” by Horseshoe Gang who “have probably got a good chunk of hip-hop pessimists back onside. The four brothers, posse-thick and patiently waiting to fire saliva, pick off multiple styles except for you-know-what..”

There’s little question that this has been a landmark release for the London emcee with such an extensive of international media coverage, and it was also good to see the re-emergence of London’s Itch FM who featured Ryan Proctor’s review in Old to the New. Anyone involved with British Hip Hop will be well aware of the role the radio station played over many years in supporting artists such as Blak Twang, Jehst, Phi Life Cypher, Task Force, Skinnyman and many others, before winding up operations a few years back.
