Chase March, contributor to the renowned international hip hop online platform The Word is Bond, broadcasts a weekly Rap Radio Hour, and spoke recently to MidWest rapper Matt Maddox about his new album Righteous Fury which released on 25th February

There’s been extensive international media coverage over the past couple of months for the ex Guerilla War Tactix member’s sophomore album, his first in 4 years following the release of Asylum Artistry. He has taken his time putting the latest release together which he describes as his “most personal to date”, and called in the production skills of Skammadix, Nemesis, Sultan Mir, Jedi Mind Tricks’ C Lance, Vanderslice, Engineer, The Snowgoons’ Sicknature and the UK’s Edd Bundy. Throughout the album there is turntablism of the highest caliber courtesy of his Red Phone labelmate DJ TMB.

British online multi genre music magazine Subba Cultcha took time out recently to speak with American rapper Matt Maddox who released his new album “Righteous Fury” on 25th February

The ex Guerilla War Tactix member, originally out of Long Beach California but now living in Kansas spoke on the recording process and transition from his debut album “Asylum Artistry”, the writing process and lyrical content, his influences and the publication also asked him about the specific motivation behind the tracks Work, Sick & Tired and No Country for Old Men.

The feature, written by Ben Bradford, opens with a snapshot review summarizing “It’s a 19 track album but boy does it whiz by. Admittedly at first it took me a few listens to realise the power and the cleverness of this album. Ex Guerilla War Tactix member Matt Maddox, originally out of Long Beach California but now based in Kansas, released his sophomore album Righteous Fury on 25th February through Red Phone Records / Seven 13 Music.

The follow up to Asylum Artistry was a long time in the making and described by Maddox as his most personal to date. A full endorsement of the lyricism, rhymes & beats on display opens with “From the instant you hear the first cut. you are both engaged and threatened by what you hear….He has thrown ‘today’s hip hop’ on it’s head and as a listener you can not remove the headphones” as the review goes into the finer points behind the key elements of the release, before summarizing “Each thump of the snare and each phrase uttered is a constant reminder of what hip hop should be in this day and age.
