North west London rapper Da Flyy Hooligan released his new album “S.C.U.M.” on October 27th through US label 22 Entertainment.

Produced entirely by the UK’s Agor and featuring Westside Gunn & Hus Kingpin, it is available on CD and digital formats from multiple stores worldwide including Amazon, Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify.

Long regarded as one of the most creative and gifted lyricists in the British rap scene, his reputation is particularly strong for the quality of his live shows, and there are two upcoming opportunities to see him perform in London this month

First is this Saturday November 11th when he teams up with DJ Snips and the boys to host Livin Proof’s 10th Birthday Bash when the special guests will be Stretch Armstrong and The Alchemist.

Then on Friday November 17th he will be on stage with DJ Madhandz and the rest of the “Hip Hop Back in the Day” crew performing tracks from the new album at Arch Space, 340 Acton Mews, Haggerston, London E8 4EA.

Ex Guerilla War Tactix member Matt Maddox, originally out of Long Beach California but now based in Kansas, released his sophomore album Righteous Fury on 25th February through Red Phone Records / Seven 13 Music.

The follow up to Asylum Artistry was a long time in the making and described by Maddox as his most personal to date. It also boasts features from Tragedy Khadafi, Adlib, Burke the Jurke, Reef the Lost Cauze and King Magnetic, with quality production courtesy of The Snowgoons’ Sicknature, C Lance of Jedi Mind Tricks, Nemesis, Skammadix, Vanderslice, Hellzwind, Engineer, Sultan Mir and the UK’s Edd Bundy. There is also turntablism throughout courtesy of fellow Red Phone labelmate DJ TMB.

The release has received an extensive level of coverage from publications around the world, the latest review published by Hip Hop Dependency in the United States

A full endorsement of the lyricism, rhymes & beats on display opens with “From the instant you hear the first cut. you are both engaged and threatened by what you hear….He has thrown ‘today’s hip hop’ on it’s head and as a listener you can not remove the headphones” as the review goes into the finer points behind the key elements of the release, before summarizing “Each thump of the snare and each phrase uttered is a constant reminder of what hip hop should be in this day and age. The Voice Newspaper is a well known publication in London which has run from 1982, and has been regularly voted “Britain’s Best Black Newspaper” for their coverage on a range of issues specific to the community including sport, current affairs, education, lifestyle, faith, career opportunites and entertainment.

The papers’s Hazel Ann Williams took a trip up to Islington recently to interview one of the hottest emerging figures in the UK hip hop scene, melanin 9, to discuss his new album Magna Carta, his early days of starting out as an artist and his views on hip hop generally today.
