Barely 5 months since relaunching after a 15 year hiatus, hip hop label New Dawn Records have been busy expanding their operation.

In the Spring they released a number of digital singles and EP’s by Belles in Monica and Underground Cartel having signed a distribution agreement with US company Ingrooves for that format.

However with a history of releasing vinyl and also with an eye to the future in relation to upcoming signing news, NDR have developed the facility to take orders from the public and retail directly from any location worldwide and are now shipping to several destinations.

They have begun with the limited remaining stock from their back catalogue, the original rare & classic Belles in Monica 12″ singles “Y’All Under Surveillance”, “Meltdown”, “What D’Ya Need” & “Smoke Filled Rooms b/w Skitzophonetic” all in mint condition, 200 gram. The short video on Youtube has just been made to demonstrate the prime condition of their stock and includes track listings and audio snippets of each single .

The singles include remixes by Phi Life Cypher producer DJ Nappa, legendary turntablist & II Tone Committee producer Krash Slaughta, renowned London duo Unsung Heroes, DMC finalst DJ Mr Thing and more.

Many of the tracks were included in the group’s specially formatted digital releases “Y’All in Meltdown” and “Natsukashii” and can be heard on Soundcloud & Spotify.

The label have launched a store on their official website. Easy to use, various standard offers and discounts are quoted although they can be contacted regarding availability for any quantity. Currency exchange rate information is also provided and payments are secured via Paypal.

New video “Alligator Skin” by north west London rapper Da Flyy Hooligan, the latest from his album “S.C.U.M.” released on October 27th through US label 22 Entertainment which includes guest featured artists Westside Gunn and Hus Kingpin.

UK producer Agor has again laced this one with a stunning beat. A vocal and piano sampled slow burn feeds the switch up to a raucous guitar driven neck breaker, DFH typically taking the opportunity to let loose with both barrels in a lyrical onslaught.

Equally impressive are the new visuals shot by London director Ringz ov Saturn. Watch it now on Youtube

The album itself has just been reviewed by Phil Tang for London’s Guestlist Network Magazine.

North west London rapper Da Flyy Hooligan released his new album “S.C.U.M.” on Froday October 27th through Miami label 22 Entertainment.

Produced entirely by one of the UK’s hottest emerging names Agor, current US luminaries Westside Gunn and Hus Kingpin also make a guest appearance.

Kenya’s Afro-Way Magazine has just published a feature on the album which you can read HERE

DFH has long been regarded as one of England’s most creative and gifted lyricists who also spent time based in NYC as part of J-Ronin’s “All Elements” click and has worked with artists such as DV Alias Khryst, Prince Po, Dead Prez and the late Sean Price with whom he’d developed a close bond.

The album includes a tribute to the man in amongst a tracklist representing charismatic portrayals of an irrepressible underclass. Stylish and compelling, a series of bold, satirical and uncomprimising rhymes intelligently depict contemporary aspirations, and reaffirms his international reputation as a serious force in rap’s new wave.

For the benefit of anyone who temporarily left the planet in the last 24 hours, NY State rapper & producer duo Tone Chop and Frost Gamble released their new album “Respect Is Earned Not Given” yesterday through Miami label 22 Entertainment.

Whether your preferred format is physical CD, digital mp3 or streaming, it’s all covered from a wide range of stores including Amazon, iTunes & Spotify

Given the pair started out in the late 90’s, it’s unsurprising that their style draws from the core principles of that era while not being stuck in it – a focus on meaningful rhymes and flow skills, battle bars mixed with the art of storytelling. The polished production fuses classic and contemporary sounds with a sprinkling of turntablism which in itself is an almost forgotten artform.

It’s inaccurate to apply labels such as old or new school to the genre generally as that depends on context and perspective. For Millenials who have been largely force fed a diet of bland, superficial, commercialised mediocrity passing itself off as culturally progressive – backed by a mainstream media who’ll literally say & write everything and anything to stay ‘on message’ and retain a writing gig – then Chop & Frost’s style IS new school to that generation.

The same generation were the catalyst in the resurgence of 90’s culture in recent years as college kids picked up on the classics for the first time in specialist clubs, where of course it all began in the first place.

To progress and evolve for the better rather than just for the sake of change, history has to be understood – evolution with core guiding principles brings longevity, without them a slow death follows. As such, “Respect Is Earned Not Given” plays an essential educational role for today, acknowledged by the three most recent reviews :
