As the name suggests, BritishHipHop.Com have been one of the long standing supporters of UK hip hop, but have also covered a wide variety of international artists.

Andy Fletcher from the magazine sat down with London’s Melanin 9 recently ahead of the release of his new album “Magna Carta”, due out on 3rd December.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the talented emcee, freestyle performances for SBTV being featured on The Source in the United States, the launch of his single & video this week for “White Russian” featuring Roc Marciano, premiered by Nah Right and covered by many top international onlines including Hip Hop DX and 2 Dope Boys, and the preparation for his launch event tonight, Friday 23rd November upstairs at The Vibe Bar, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 (8pm – 1am, entry £5) where he’ll be joined by DJ 279, Genesis Elijah, Iron Braydz, Rewd Adams, Cyrus Malachi, Phoenix da Icefire, Skriblah Dangogh and Logic.

The interview covers the early days, starting out working with Terra Firma’s Skriblah Dangogh, the meaning behind his new album Magna Carta and the emphasis on relevant subject matter playing a pivotal role in his overall approach, thoughts on the world of hip hop and the various sources and artists from which he draws inspiration, and his overall reflection on the past 6 years

Its one of the most in depth interviews he’s given for some time and can be read HERE

Taken from the album Magna Carta which releases on 3rd December, with CD versions available by pre – order via http://m9ether.bandcamp.com

Its rare for a UK hip hop artist to receive this level of Stateside support, however Melanin 9 has already featured in The Source last week via his performance for SBTV’s SkooledBy series, and with coverage coming in key UK publications MOJO and Q Magazine, it’s testament to his skills as a lyricist and wordsmith, and refreshing to see it being recognized at such a wide level

DJ Slim, aka Tom Clover, is the editor of UK online PopCulturez

Longtime fan of that classic hip hop sound, he is the latest to review Melanin 9’s new album “Magna Carta” which releases to the public on 3rd December

A typically in depth review by Slim compares the feel of the album to the Golden Era and the wordplay and lyricism of Wu Tang, Mobb Deep and Nas with that true UK traditional flow style representing real stories from the street.

While fans of the Wu-Tang Clan will certainly find much to latch onto here, Melanin 9 also brings the power of UK crews like Terra Firma to bear, making this an impressively accomplished debut album” concludes the review

The Guestlist Network is a multi genre online and physical publication, distributed free around London every month

They carry news of all forms of music releases, interviews, videos, events and also report on what’s happening from around the UK

They have just made the debut album by Melanin 9, “Magna Carta”, their “Album of the Month” courtesy of a review by freelance journalist Oliver Pickup, and the review is live now on their website as well as due to be carried in their physical paper

Not for the first time, some loose comparisons are made with Nas, The Pharcyde and Wu Tang, to be expected given the heavy influence The Golden Era has had on this incredibly talented young emcee.

With mellow beats and forceful rapping about gritty street stories, Melanin 9’s Magna Carta is an important release setting out his own lofty ambitions” concludes the review which you can read in full HERE

Look out for much more media coverage coming from both sides of the Atlantic, including exclusive performances and interviews with SBTV, The Hip Hop Chronicle and Blatantly Blunt.

They are the latest to review Melanin 9’s new album Magna Carta which is on general release from the 3rd December, although pre – orders of CD versions can be placed via http://m9ether.bandcamp.com and will be delivered by 25th November

The review is another in appreciation of his lyrical content, wordplay and diversity of production.

Pointing to Nas’ “Illmatic” as a reference point for the overall concept, the review concludes:

Melanin 9’s honesty and lyrical prowess shines through, proving that with a fresh beat, deep lyrics and talented delivery, you can be as ‘conscious’ as you want. The message doesn’t detract from the music, and the music doesn’t detract from the message.

It’s ideology and medium in perfect harmony.

Latest UK online magazine to review the new album by Ohio’s Copywrite “God Save The King (Proper English Version)”

This time Scott Ronan gives it the 4 star treatment for WhatCulture

He gives a full track by track analysis, picking up on the wordplay and metaphors on display throughout, the dope production and again that international blend of high quality UK and Stateside Emcees complimenting each other on this imaginative release

He summarises

All in all a very strong Hip Hop album. It provides strong Boom Bap beats that sound great in my car with interesting talented lyricists. Copywrite has always been a great lyricist who has earned his underground stripes but with this album he has shown his respect for UK hip-hop by including so many of the dopest UK emcees. Copywrite is a talented battle emcees who uses detailed metaphors and snappy punch lines all over this album. The list of guests help to make this a good strong album. Easily a four out of five.

The single reflects the overall motive behind the album, a tribute to hip hop’s “Golden Era”. The LP is rammed full of bangin beats matched with some fierce rhyme skills and flows, and is definitely one for the fans of the “tru skool”
