A very rare opportunity to witness jazz drummer and hip hop producer Karriem Riggins perform in London in what is his first ever solo show in London.

With production credits for work with a whole range of well known hip hop artists including Talib Kweli, Slum Village, The Roots, Common and J Dilla under his belt, the jazz drummer has also performed with Diana Krall, Oscar Peterson and Donald Byrd to mention but a few.

He has also turned his hand to a bit of turntablism, and brings his DJ set to England for the show he calls Blend, so called as he mashes together his favourite jazz, soul, funk and hip hop sounds for a unique experience. It’ll get lively…..!!!!

West London emcee & producer Apex Zero released his debut solo album “Reality Provoking Liberation” on 28th October to critical acclaim.

Drawing from the sensibilities of hip hop from the Golden Era, he has received plaudits for addressing a wide range of political and social issues in his rhymes & lyricism, delivered with his trademark firebrand flow. The latest online publication to endorse the release is the UK’s Hip Hop In English

In opening, they introduce the album as “a verbal lambasting directed straight at the head honchos holding office all over the world. Delicate it is not.” before dissecting the lyrics, beats, tracks and summarizing “Heavy, yes. Hard hitting, yes. Informed, skilful and dynamic, yes. It’s a philosophy self described as Neo-Hardcore. Not for the casual listener, but definitely one for those willing to open their mind and question their surroundings.

For anyone wanting a real grasp about what the album represents, read the review HERE

Meanwhile, Apex has been busy putting the finishing touches to his live set for the album launch party taking party on Saturday 7th December, upstairs at The Vibe Bar, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL. It’s set to be one of the hottest hip hop events of the month as he will also be joined by Caxton Press, Iron Braydz (Triple Darkness), DJ A Gee (Itch FM) and regular Hoochinoo host Peaches.

Entry is just £5.00 on the door, the night runs from 8pm – 1am with the nearest tube station being Aldgate East. Apex built up a reputation for his live performances at events such as End of the Weak, Speaker’s Corner and the raucous shows as part of The Pantheonz of Zenn-La, so this should prove to be a big show with so much quality on display. Definitely don’t miss this one!

You can hear Apex and Iron Braydz together on his earlier single “A Meeting of the Continents” where theyre also joined by Hasan Salaam

RPL-AH25

Two more British online magazines are the latest to run the rule over the new album by West London rapper & producer Apex Zero’s debut solo album “Reality Provoking Liberation” which released on 28th October

Multi genre Musiceyz and urban music specialist AH 25 Eight Entertainment like many before them have endorsed the young emcee’s rhymes, powerful delivery and conscientious approach which addresses many of the political and social issues affecting large sections of society today

The influences of artists such as Wu Tang, Immortal Technique, Nas, dead prez, Public Enemy, Klashnekoff, Phi Life Cypher and Skinnyman are evident in terms of the traditional values of hip hop lyricism, but also has a unique production style drawn from a wide spectrum of musical genres which lends itself to an edgy and at times aggressive full on attack to the senses.

Direct and to the point, he’s drawn an appreciation from an impressive range of media titles, and the latest reviews can be read at:

RPL-Blacksheep

British publication Blacksheep Magazine has a long history of reporting on international hip hop & rap music news, events, releases & features.

Their regular contributor Andrew Kay took several listens through the new album by London’s Apex Zero. Out on 28th October, “Reality Provoking Liberation” is his debut solo album, although has released a previous mixtape in 2012 “The Pulse of the Awakening” and was previously known as part of the duo First and Last (still going strong) and the group The Pantheonz of Zenn-La.

Coming up through London events such as End of the Weak & Speaker’s Corner, and as part of these groups, he became known for his lyricism covering a wide range of political and social issues combined with a fiery delivery style. The review touches upon this in “The anger and the passion command every verse enabled by some wonderfully fluid production“, the production in the large part also courtesy of Apex Zero with further contributions from First and Last’s OMeziah

With comparisons of the “social commentary” made with artists such as Public Enemy, Immortal Technique and Brother Ali with a “rich London and UK centric vibe to it” the review then proceeds through a track by track breakdown, summarized as a whole with the description “an album of reportage, a war report from the tower blocks of a stark, cold Big Smoke, where social injustice and human enslavement are commented upon with the fist pumping ire of a frustrated humanist.

Check out examples of the album via the single “A Meeting of the Continents” featuring Hasan Salaam & Iron Braydz, and the video Chaotic Revolt
