Latest to be published in this series is New Jersey hip hop trio 050 Boyz who release their debut official album “Everything 050” on 4th August, the follow up to their “050 Dat” mixtape released in 2013. The group – Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK – have been involved in the Garden State scene for the past couple of decades and have long time associate Clinton Place providing the entire production for the album.

They also have close ties with Treach (Naughty by Nature) and DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), both of whom feature on the album together with a healthy contribution from many other local Emcees. New Jersey trio Price AK, Riq da Kid & Tru Trilla, aka 050 Boyz, release their new album “Everything 050” on 4th August

While this may be their debut album as a group, a follow up to their earlier mixtape “050 Dat”, all three members have been involved in hip hop during the past couple of decades as members of groups, with solo projects and as part of the Garden State Greats movement of 2004 launched by Treach (Naughty by Nature) and Fam (Rottin Razkals).

The group formed in the past few years, in part inspired by the concept behind GSG regenerated by DoItAll from Lords of the Underground. The album’s only producer Clinton Place also has a history with the group members going back to the 90’s, and the new release can be viewed as the natural result of many years of collaborations and developed working relationships in New Jersey’s scene.

New Jersey’s 050 Boyz release their new album “Everything 050” on 4th August.

Despite this being their debut album as a group, the trio are no novices to the world of hip hop. Prince AK began as hype man for Flavor Unit’s Supreme C before an acting course with Tracey Moore (50 Cent, Busta Rhymes & Eve) saw him swap the mic for tv and film roles for a number of years.

Riq da Kid and Tru Trilla and their respective groups at the time joined Garden State Greats in 2004, a collaborative movement formed by Treach (Naughty by Nature) and Fam (Rottin Razkals) to help unify and promote artists in New Jersey. Now operating as solo artists, the original 5 members came together again in 2012 to rekindle the spirit of GSG and formed 050 Boyz.

With the support of DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), they released the mixtape “050 Dat” in 2013 before evolving into the current line up and recording the new album which has been produced entirely by long standing associate Clinton Place (Kurupt, Yukmouth, Gillahouse)

From the album is the new single “Pay Them No Mind” featuring DoItAll and NJ vet Tha Advocate

For the past few years they have run a “25 Facts Series”, a spotlight on an artist and their new release covering some of the lesser known or unusual facts about how the album was put together and other details about the artist about which the public were previously unaware.

The latest in this series features veteran Brooklyn / New Jersey duo Constant Deviants who get set to release their fourth studio album “Avant Garde” on 12th May 2015.

READ THE FULL FEATURE HERE

It also includes extra mixes and scratches by Australia’s Debonair P. The soundtrack is in fact available now on vinyl from Six2Six Records,

The concept behind the movie was based on Michael Stanley’s best selling novel “The Swiss Conspiracy”, and it was recently uploaded to Youtube

Rah-Guestlist1

In the world of hip hop, few female rappers have stood the test of time more than New Jersey’s Rah Digga.

Best known for her involvement with Flipmode Squad, she’s operated as a solo artist for a number of years and last released an official studio album “Classic” in 2010.

Though it may appear to some that she’s been living “under the radar” for a time, London journalist Jazz Gill discovered that in fact she remains one of the busiest artists on the scene today.

With a string of internet releases over the past year, British magazine Guestlist decided to find out what’s been happening, and the reporter discovered that the legendary rapper has a full schedule ahead.

She speaks on her new New Jersey Dance Network project and the level of importance that has been given in the past few months, and the amount of personal time she has devoted to it. NJDN is a non profit organization aimed to help the young people in Newark have a safe place to be creative and channel their energy in a positive way. But there is also a further aim with it as she explains her plans for staging a new musical “Breakin in the Brix” and the launch of her new EP “Hood House”, all of which is linked.

The magazine also finds out her thoughts on the recent twerking craze and contemporary artists which she spoke on via the release of her new joint “New Hoes” earlier in the year, a track featured in the UK’s DJ Magazine recently. They also take it back and discuss her decision to leave Flipmode and her solo career from then until now, as well as her future release plans which include a new mixtape and album in 2014.

Very interesting insight which can be read HERE

For more information about the New Jersey Dance Network, you can read about it HERE
