DJ Slim, aka Tom Clover, is the editor of UK online PopCulturez

Longtime fan of that classic hip hop sound, he is the latest to review Melanin 9’s new album “Magna Carta” which releases to the public on 3rd December

A typically in depth review by Slim compares the feel of the album to the Golden Era and the wordplay and lyricism of Wu Tang, Mobb Deep and Nas with that true UK traditional flow style representing real stories from the street.

“While fans of the Wu-Tang Clan will certainly find much to latch onto here, Melanin 9 also brings the power of UK crews like Terra Firma to bear, making this an impressively accomplished debut album” concludes the review

“Perhaps one of the most meaningful albums to reach my ears” opens Canada’s Brandon Schiafone aka DJ Mafia House in his review of the Melanin 9’s debut LP “Magna Carta”

Writing for the UK’s Niji Magazine, a publication with a long history of supporting new and emerging talent and artists, the piece touches upon the Emcee’s ability with superior lyricism and wordplay to speak on the subjects of racism, social conditions, spirituality, love and politics

It’s an in depth review, critical in places but done with positive intentions, but ending with :

“As he continues to grow and develop his music, I feel as if Melanin 9 could develop into an iconic figure in the world of conscious hip hop……if you are a lover of conscious rap music, however, this album is definitely worth your attention”

Releasing on 3rd December, pre-orders of the album in CD format can be made via http://m9ether.bandcamp.com and will be delivered a week before general release as an appreciation of the support

The review is another in appreciation of his lyrical content, wordplay and diversity of production.

“Melanin 9’s honesty and lyrical prowess shines through, proving that with a fresh beat, deep lyrics and talented delivery, you can be as ‘conscious’ as you want. The message doesn’t detract from the music, and the music doesn’t detract from the message.

It’s ideology and medium in perfect harmony.”
