Cutt-For-President

New joint by east coast duo Constant Deviants who release their new album “Omerta” on June 28th.

“Cutt for President” is a bonus track recorded recently with MC M.I.’s instantly recognizable flows making way for generous sections of turntablism supplied by the man himself, DJ Cutt.

Baltimore rapper M.I. is currently in his home city filming scenes for a new movie called “Can’t Live Without My Radio”. He will also appear in a new film called “Six2Six” co:starring Treach, Syleena Johnson and Chief Rocker Busy Bee, which has just been selected by the Hip Hop Film Festival to be shown in NYC in August.

Omerta-Blacksheep

East coast hiphop duo Constant Deviants release their new album “Omerta” on June 28th.

In this one, the pair have taken a slightly different approach in adopting a running theme and concept throughout in a similar vein to Kool Keith’s “Tashan Dorsett” and Prince Paul’s “A Prince Among Thieves”. Speaking on the idea behind it, Emcee M.I. is quoted as saying “It’s to put a little of the fun back into hip hop, not just throwing out beats and bars. A return to the days where the focus was on entertainment, relating imaginative stories and putting more emphasis on actual songwriting“.

Of course through their Six2Six label they have expanded their creative enterprises into movie making, so it’s in keeping with the mindset to be innovative while retaining their trademark sound.

In this early review published by the UK’s Blacksheep Magazine, contributor Andrew Kay grasps the point exactly and in conclusion remarks ““Omerta” is a solid slice of street knowledge. They don’t make albums like this anymore. The Golden Era has come full circle. Not before time.READ THE FULL REVIEW HERE

We of course have had the benefit of hearing the album, and whether it’s because it is the first to be recorded where the pair were in the studio together for many years, the quality is superb and it’s little surprise the group themselves deem it to be their favourite album to date.

They released two tracks recently. First a little loosener called “Gavone” followed by the single “So Underrated”

Look out for a lot of media coverage on this album in the months ahead together with more releases, the launch of a new video freestyle series “Tre Volte” and news of a special album launch event in NYC later in June. Keep up to date with Constant Deviants on TWITTER and FACEBOOK

Omerta-HHK

A year after releasing their highly acclaimed album “Avant Garde”, duo emcee M.I. and DJ Cutt, aka Constant Deviants, return with “Omerta” which drops 28th June on Six2Six Records

Their natural instinct for creativity has developed into the world of movie making in recent years, and they have drawn from their Italian and Russian roots to adopt the roles of Luciano & Lansky in the new themed concept album.

HHK Mag caught up with them early as part of their ongoing “25 Facts” series, where the group discuss more the thinking behind the concept, reveal it is the first time for many years they recorded together in the same studio simultaneously, and perhaps it is due to that extra energy that they have created what they believe to be their best work to date.

CD-TheBeeshine

Filmed on 12th May 2015, the actual day of release of their fourth album “Avant Garde”, Constant Deviants sat down with The Beeshine in New York while they were in town for a series of media and radio interviews.

For fans of the group, this footage is also a bit of a collectors item as both Emcee M.I…no it’s not DeNiro in Raging Bull ;)…and DJ Cutt discuss a variety subjects from their history, rarer than some of the 12″‘s in Cutt’s crates!!!

IMG_7195ba

They talk about their very earliest days getting into music, M.I. explaing his family’s musical background and Cutt reflecting on the days of Red Alert on Kiss and hearing LL Cool J’s “Rock the Bells” for the first time.

Moving on to first performing, M.I. recalls the days of hip hop culture first arriving with breakdancin crews and the first freestyle sessions at a record store in Baltimore’s Saratoga Street, while Cutt reveals all about destroying his father’s turntable trying to scratch for the first time, then saving up lunch money to get his first decks….without a mixer….

However it was the progression for both to NY state, with Cutt at school for music engineering that the two met in the 90’s and performed together for the first time at college parties.

cd 5

The pivotal point came with the release of their first 12″ Competition Catch Speed Knots, and Cutt reveals he still has a picture of DJ Premier buying a copy at Beat Street. M.I. explains his development from initially a battle rap style delivery to a writer of reality rhymes, and both speak about the benefits they’ve enjoyed of travelling to Europe, learning business skills from the industry and how they’d like to be considered in years to come.

WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW

At the time of this interview, they were also guests of Smokin Aces and DJ Bazarro on Beatminerz Radio, and meeting with DJ Evil Dee again after many years ultimately led to Da Beatminerz remixing Constant Deviants most recent single “End All Be All”.

It was released yesterday, check the stream
