Recipient of the title “Best Rapper” at the Ithaca Music Awards in 2019, Anthony Kannon has enjoyed a rapid rise in recognition as one of the most highly rated talents to emerge from NY State in recent years. 

His new album “Cautionary Tales” releases on October 20th a collaborative project with veteran producer Frost Gamble, originally from nearby Binghamton and now resident in Canada.

Local media outlets were quick to pick up on the story of his signing with New Dawn Records for the release including a feature in The Ithaca Voice newspaper, a report aired live on tv news station WENY and an interview broadcast on local commercial radio station Z95.5 FM.

The first single from the album “Pitfalls” released today and addresses his own personal growth.  An evolution from the hustles of his younger days to more progressive paths while struggling to escape past legacies, the funk fuelled beat lending itself to the air of optimism for the future.   As with the entire album, this is the classic art of real life storytelling set to the perfect soundtrack.

Originally broadcast live on July 15th, Brick City rapper Tru Trilla sat down with host Sim of Washington DC’s popular Youtube Channel “The Front Stoop”.

In line with the channel’s focus on addressing broader current issues affecting society and hip hop directly, the pair first discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic both in a personal and professional context, and the veracity of information being provided to the public at large.

While playing tracks from the album, the subject of conscious lyricism and the role it plays within the wider forms of contemporary hip hop was considered and compared before the interview moved onto Tru’s history in the New Jersey scene.

He explains the origins of his group 050 Boyz of which he is a member with Prince Ak and Riq, the source of its name, and how this led to building with Shade 45’s DJ Eclipse and DJ Premier before touching upon his early affiliations with Naughty by Nature and Lords of the Underground.

Of course at the heart of the interview is his new album “God of Barz” where he breaks down the concepts, subject matters and construction, and speaks on his history and future working with the album’s producers from the States, UK and Europe.

Rapper and producer Az Izz released his new album “Dopeliss” through New Dawn Records earlier his month, marking a return to the hip hop fold after several years having spent time working on tv, film and sports productions.

Formerly of the legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, an extensive click which included Pace Won, Rah Digga, D.U. and Young Zee among their numbers, they were also noted at the time for a number of collaborative projects involving Wu Tang, The Fugees and a new emerging force from Detroit by the name of D12.

Known for a quirky and humorous approach to his rhyme schemes, the album musically also represents the evolution of the genre from the boom bap of “Ghetto” to electro bangers such as “Nunya” and “Gunz n Dice Games”.

Rapper and producer Az Izz, formerly of legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, returns with the self produced AA side single “Ghetto” b/w “Crazy” out today, the third from his new album “Dopeliss” releasing through New Dawn Records on July 3rd.

Together with Pacewon, Young Zee, Rah Digga and D.U., the Brick City crew were noted for their work with The Fugees, Wu Tang and a new emerging force from Detroit at the time, D12.  More recently pursuing a career in tv, film and sports music production, Az marks his arrival back with a first major solo offering in several years which blends the sounds of hip hop through the ages.       

On “Ghetto”, the classic sound of the east coast prevails through guitar hooks and blaring brass on journeys to the gritty underbelly of the city, bars portraying street tales from the hood in the daily battle between survival and aspiration. Meanwhile on “Crazy”, aptly named for these times, heavy kicks and electronica fuel the adrenaline of a chaotic Brick City ride accompanied by fellow group member D.U.

New Dawn Records have today announced the release date of the new album “God of Barz” by New Jersey rapper Tru Trilla as May 29th 2020.

The follow up to the recently released “Seymour Chronicles EP” which is available from all major online streaming platforms and digital stores, distribution is again by Ingrooves / Universal.

New video “Alligator Skin” by north west London rapper Da Flyy Hooligan, the latest from his album “S.C.U.M.” released on October 27th through US label 22 Entertainment which includes guest featured artists Westside Gunn and Hus Kingpin.

UK producer Agor has again laced this one with a stunning beat. A vocal and piano sampled slow burn feeds the switch up to a raucous guitar driven neck breaker, DFH typically taking the opportunity to let loose with both barrels in a lyrical onslaught.

Harlesden’s Da Flyy Hooligan has been at the forefront of the burgeoning UK rap scene for a number of years and has been long regarded as one of England’s most gifted and creative lyricists.

He also spent some time based in NYC and has worked with the calibre of Sav Killz, Hasan Salaam, Prince Po, DV Alias Khryst, Dead Prez, the late Sean Price.

In a rare step for a British rap artist, he has signed with a US label for the release of his new album “S.C.U.M.” in the shape of Miami’s 22 Entertainment. Out on Friday 27th October, guest featured artists include current Stateside luminaries Westside Gunn and Hus Kigpin.
