Been quite a 12 months for hip hop producer Frost Gamble, originally from NY State but now resident in Canada.

Having signed with Miami’s 22 Entertainment, whose back catalogue includes Royce da 5’9″, Fashawn, Joe Budden, J-Kwon and KXNG Crooked, his first release on his new deal was the “Veteran” EP with long time sparring partner, east coast rapper Tone Chop, in November ’16.

This was followed quickly by the album “Black Beach” with another of his Nostalgia Clic stable of artists, Detroit rapper ZotheJerk. Release in May this year and featuring KXNG Crooked, Guilty Simpson, Boldy James and Sadat X, it received worldwide media coverage including a review in the renowned MOJO Magazine.

As we enter the latter half of 2017, he has two more releases on the immediate horizon. September 29th is the date for the new album “Respect Is Earned Not Given” again with Tone Chop and featuring Kool G Rap, Planet Asia, Tragedy Khadafi and rap battling phenomenon D.N.A.

This will be followed on October 20th with the “Rare Fabric” EP, a joint venture with Tragedy Khadafi. Meantime, he’s been recording new music with Horseshoe Gang, Royce da 5’9″ and is also near completion of a solo producer album “I Missed My Bus” which includes guest feature artists Ruste Juxx, Ras Kass, Skyzoo, Rah Digga, Guilty Simpson, KXNG Crooked and many more.

Midwest journalist Sinseer took time out recently to speak with Frost about his earliest days in production, his influences and style, the historical relationship with Tone Chop and Zo, his tie up with the label and of course all of his past and future projects.

In the past week, UK journalist Peter Johnstone chopped it up with eastcoast hip hop producer Frost Gamble in the lead up to his new album with rapper Tone Chop “Respect Is Earned Not Given” releasing on September 29th.

Relocated from NY State to Canada some years back, Frost discusses his earliest days in hip hop, from breakdancing to Mc-ing and ultimately crate digging and production. Having been a long time associate of Chop dating back to a friendly rap battle rivalry, he discusses the progression from their “Veteran” Ep of last year to the new album.

He then speaks on his general approach to production, the factors involved working with different artists, the various considerations when writing together, and explains why his greatest moment to date came via an endorsement by the legendary Rakim.

In addition to two albums this year with Detroit’s ZotheJerk and the new release with Chop, Frost has been much in demand. He has just wrapped a new project with Tragedy Khadafi, has recently remixed tracks for Royce da 5’9″ and Horseshoe Gang and during the interview reveals details of his new solo album nearing completion “I Missed My Bus” which includes guest artists Skyzoo, Ras Kass, KXNG Crooked, Ruste Juxx, Rah Digga and many more.

Long time eastcoast sparring partners Tone Chop and Frost Gamble release their new album “Respect Is Earned Not Given” through 22 Entertainment on September 29th.

Rapper Chop’s experienced mastery of the mic combines the art of storytelling with fierce lyrical salvos, his trademark delivery unleashed through a series of powerful verses and snappy hooks. Guest featured artists Kool G Rap, Planet Asia, Tragedy Khadafi, Canadian upcomer White Rhino and the States’ most viewed online rap battler D.N.A. deliver front and centre with fire in the bars as expected, hard rhymes and sharp wordplay for the hip hop connoisseur.

Regarded as one of the fastest emerging producer names on the scene, Frost Gamble’s beats are infused with soul, r&b, funk, dub and electronica. Mashing up samples, loops, turntablism and original recordings, the spirit’s traditional, the result’s contemporary.

UK online HHK Magazine spoke with the pair as part of their “25 Facts” series which takes a behind the scenes look at the making of the album and offers previously unknown information about the artists.

Earlier this week, eastcoast rapper & producer duo Tone Chop & Frost Gamble jumped on Skype to speak with Rainbow Exotic Music for the latest edition of their podcast.

The pair discussed the earliest days together growing up in NY state which included a period as rap battle rivals, and their earliest influences, citing names such as Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Pete Rock, LL Cool J and The Beatnuts as helping shape their initial approach.

They then speak about the concept behind their new album “Respect Is Earned Not Given” and Chop provides an insight into the working relationship with featured artists Kool G Rap and DNA. The subject then moves on to the comparisons between the classic style of hip hop with some of today’s contemporary mainstream offshoots, the differentials in marketplaces and focus on lyical content, as Chop declares his wish for “mumble rap” to be re-categorized seperately from the genre!

Chop is then asked to give his thoughts on Jay-Z’s new album “4:44”, and as a fan of Hova he gives an interesting view of his overall body of work since the release of “Reasonable Doubt”. Meanwhile, as the pair discuss the logistics of recording together, Frost explains his move from traditional to contemporary crate digging techniques using the MPC, S900 and Tempest as part of the production process.
