To mark the fifth anniversary since re-launching in 2019, New Dawn Records have today released the new single “No Joking Around” by New Jersey rapper Tru Trilla.
Following last month’s ‘Sun Rays’ featuring Reks and Lakim Shabazz, this is the second to be taken from the forthcoming album “XVI : Return of the Gods” out in May.
On the new cut, the Brick City veteran has recruited another Garden State native in the form of Jamal Nueve, originally affiliated with the legendary Flavor Unit crew as DJ Jamal #9. Now resident in California, the multi credited producer has delivered a funk fuelled banger laced with ferocious bars from lyrical marksmen in the heavyweight division.
The gloves are off as Boston’s Flash and V Knuckles of N.B.S. join Tru and Recognize Ali on the rampage, exchanging trademark punchlines as combinations thrown in a barrage of body blows to would be contenders. Rugged and uncompromising, high frequency lyrics with no prisoners taken, the result is undisputed.

Together with Pace Won, Young Zee, Rah Digga and D.U., the Brick City crew were noted for their work with The Fugees, Wu Tang and a new emerging force from Detroit, D12. More recently pursuing a career in tv, film and sports music production, Az has returned to the hip hop fold with his first major solo album in several years. Largely self produced with additional contributions by Qua Z Mo, DJ 3rdRell and DJ Profluent, the guest featured artists include several of his fellow former group members and further luminaries from the local independent scene including Drift, Rube the Difference and Jaja Kenyatta.

Eastcoast rapper / producer duo Tone Chop & Frost Gamble released their album “Respect Is Earned Not Given” in September featuring Kool G Rap, Planet Asia, DNA and Tragedy Khadafi.
While in NYC last month they appeared as guests of DJ Eclipse on his Sirius XM “Rap Is Outta Control Show” a few days before Frost released his “Rare Fabric” EP with Tragedy Khadafi and his remix of the Kid Vishis single “Go Off” featuring Royce da 5’9″.
The pair are back with a brand new joint “Chop ‘Em Up [Freestyle]” made available as a free download today, the battle hardened rapper delivering a salvo of his trademark punchline bars over Frost’s bass heavy beats that kick like a mule.

New video by north west London rapper Da Flyy Hooligan, “Romero Bryan” is taken from his EP “Fucc Ya Life Praise Mine” released earlier this summer.
Long regarded as one of the UK’s most gifted and creative lyricists, his bullish rhymes are fuelled by Agor’s lavish guitar driven production. The newly shot visuals are equally as impressive, filmed and co:directed on location by DFH and Ringz ov Saturn, with further drone sequences choreographed by Subtle Satori.
In an extremely rare occurrence for a British rap artist, DFH has signed with a US label, 22 Entertainment, for the release his new album “S.C.U.M.”. Out on October 28th 2017 and produced entirely by Agor, it includes features by Westide Gunn and Hus Kingpin.
The label, whose back catalogue includes Royce da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Fashawn, Stat Quo, Crooked I, and J-Kwon, are distributed worldwide by Sony’s The Orchard, and the new album will be available in both digital and physical formats.

Earlier this week, Detroit rapper ZotheJerk and Winnipeg based producer Frost Gamble spoke with French online In The Mood TV
In the new video interview published online today, the pair discuss the themes and concepts behind their new album “Black Beach” which releases on May 26th through 22 Entertainment.
With Zo having re-located to Ohio, he explains why he returned to Detroit for part of the recording process which took place at Mr Porter’s previous studio where Eminem’s “Infinite” was originally written, while Frost explains the influence being in the city had on his production approach to the album.
They also discuss how they first met and the logistical aspects of working together despite the distances involved, while Zo, who appeared in the film “8 Mile”, gives his thoughts on artists’ contribution to the local community given he received a “Humanitarian of the Year” award for mentoring work with youth projects.
