Baltimore & New Jersey duo Constant Deviants release their fourth studio album a fortnight today, on 12th May 2015.

“Avant Garde” will be available on vinyl, CD and digital formats through their own Six2Six Records label. 2016 will mark the 20th anniversary since Emcee M.I. and DJ Cutt released their debut 12″ single ‘Competition Catch Speed Knots’, and while the pair worked mainly separately on projects with Arista and Roc A Fella for around 8 years, since re-forming in 2009 they have had a prolific level of output since. This also includes releasing projects with their partners SWC Records in Switzerland as “Trliateral Commission”, the most recent of which was the “Swiss Banks” movie earlier this year

There has been much media interest in the group and their new release, especially given their years in the game, their approach to running the label and of course the quality of the album itself.

Latest to speak with them was the journalist Taytula Burke, regular contributor for the UK’s online magazine God is in the TV. The feature published incorporates her interview with them, delving further into their history and how they arrived at where they are today. Summarizing “Avant Garde is proof if any was needed that Constant Deviants are constantly working, constantly evolving and constantly flying the flag for hip hop deep rooted in an era where the culture and authenticity reigned supremeREAD THE WHOLE FEATURE HERE

As well as seeing their single “Breathin” be featured in DJ Magazine and reach #1 in the college radio charts, with their bonus cut “Just Make Music” also enjoying a lot of airplay right now, Constant Deviants filmed a trilogy of freestyles, named the “3Stylez Series”. Episodes 1 & 2, “Heavy Artillery” and “Art of War” respectively were launched during April, with the 3rd & final instalment due to be released around the time of the album’s release.

CD-HipHopFoundation

New Jersey / Baltimore duo Constant Deviants have worked together in various ways since the mid 90’s, and after a time spent operating within the major label sector, they came back together in 2009 to set up Six2Six Records, and since then have released 3 studio albums and various orther affiliated projects.

Their fourth studio album “Avant Garde” releases on 12th May, and Lafayette Hicks – himself involved with hip hop since the good ‘ol days – ran the rule over it for online The Hip Hop Foundation

Afforded a 4 star rating, the review also outlines some of the duo’s back story and notes Emcee M.I.’s lyricism “There’s great storytelling here, words of wisdom, braggadocia, a bit of thuggery…..something for everyone” and on DJ Cutt’s production “His beats have that golden era quality to them but by the same token, they sound fresh and not like some recycled 90’s tracks. I also liked how he incorporated scratches into the tracks, cutting up everything from Onyx to Slick Rick. He even got in a line from my favorite old school movie Beat Street, so I was won over just from that.

It’s a really in depth review by someone who obviously has a lot of experience in the genre, and you can read it all HERE

Constant Deviants have also filmed a special freestyle trilogy. The first from the “3Stylez” series was launched last week, with Episodes 2 & 3 coming soon. Check out “Heavy Artillery” on Vimeo
