Omerta-HHK

A year after releasing their highly acclaimed album “Avant Garde”, duo emcee M.I. and DJ Cutt, aka Constant Deviants, return with “Omerta” which drops 28th June on Six2Six Records

Their natural instinct for creativity has developed into the world of movie making in recent years, and they have drawn from their Italian and Russian roots to adopt the roles of Luciano & Lansky in the new themed concept album.

HHK Mag caught up with them early as part of their ongoing “25 Facts” series, where the group discuss more the thinking behind the concept, reveal it is the first time for many years they recorded together in the same studio simultaneously, and perhaps it is due to that extra energy that they have created what they believe to be their best work to date.

050-IAmHipHopMagazine

The debut album by Newark hiphop group 050 Boyz releases this coming Tuesday, 4th August 2015.

Riq da Kid, Prince AK and Tru Trilla have put together a banger from start to finish, assisted greatly by the production by their long time associate Clinton Place.

“Everything 050”, just as with the group named after the area code for New Jersey, is one for the heads. Neck breakin beats, raucous delivery & energy, on point lyricism, it’s like the good ‘ol days while being aware it’s 2015. There’s also features from Treach (Naughty by Nature), Lakim Shabazz, DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), Famiil, Tha Advocate, IB the Druid, B Wells and many more, including a lil UK flavour from WiseRap.

050-LincolnParkFestival

Speaking of the UK, the trio chopped it up with London’s I Am Hip Hop Magazine recently to discuss how the group formed and their links with Treach and the Garden State Greats movement, the artists who inspired them and their traditional and ongoing focus on representing New Jersey. Having come up through the Golden Era, they also highlight the new wave of artists they rate, they discuss the process on choosing producers, and Clinton Place himself speaks about his involvement with the album.

The feature also touches upon their move into the world of acting. READ THE FULL INTERVIEW HERE

Taken from the album, check out “DNA” ft Treach, Ib the Druid & Famiil, and “Pay Them No Mind” ft DoItAll & Tha Advocate

Look out for extensive media coverage on 050 Boyz in the next few weeks, more audio and video releases, and appearances as guests on radio shows including with DJ Eclipse on the Halftime Show on WNYU Wednesday 12th August and again on his Rap Is Outta Control Show on Sirius XM 30th August

They performed at the Lincoln Park Festival in Newark last weekend with their dj, DJ Nugget. Some may recognize him from this story which broke on ABC News’ “The Investigators” programme last year where he was falsely charged with a number of offences, the dashcam evidence ultimately leading to the police officers being indicted

Ande-PopCulturez

Rising Southern rapper & producer Ande Bishop is one of the most hotly tipped new talents emerging from the new wave of urban artists who have appeared on the radar recently

A co-founder of the American Roulette organization with others such as Londn Blue, the development of the platform to initially in effect showcase their production and sell beats to generating huge audience figures for their own solo material has been highly impressive.

Only in January this year did Ande come out from behind the desk to start recording his own material, and has enjoyed coverage of multiple track releases in many of the leading online publications in the United States. The partnership deal with Seven 13 Entertainment in the Spring has acted as a further springboard for Roulette to reach an even wider audience, and the release of his introductory EP “Ocean$” on 19th May marks another step forward in what looks like being a very productive path

The UK’s online PopCulturez have just reviewed the EP which you can read HERE

ande6

Ande cites a wide range of influences from his younger days, growing up in a household surrounded by the sounds of classic soul, r&b, hip hop and contemporary rap from the region, and his style has adapted a little of everything. The resulting EP has been noted for its fresh approach, with many eagerly awaiting the forthcoming album scheduled for later in the year

Here’s a taster from the EP, the official video for “Old Jay-Z Videos”

Keep up to date with him on twitter @2AndeBishop You can hear and buy the EP over on iTunes

CD-Hype

A few weeks ago, Emcee M.I. from Constant Deviants sat down with journalist Roberta Lampley, and the subsequent feature published in The Hype Magazine takes an in depth look into how the group operates in the greater context of life as an independent.

The duo released their fourth studio album “Avant Garde” on 12th May through Six2Six Records, a label M.I. co-owns and runs. The interview delves deeper into the group’s earlier days and touches upon their time with major labels Arista and Roc-A-Fella before returning to the independent fold and beginning their own label.

ConstantDeviants

They discuss their marketing strategy with a brand very much rooted in the traditional Golden Era but with a modern day approach, the rise in vinyl sales, the importance of physical product and how they developed an overseas presence particularly in Europe. The theme in the interview is the wealth of experience M.I. has from his two decades in hip hop having seen the industry on both sides of the Major / Indie coin. The knowledge is likely to be useful to all artists and labels starting up today.

They finish by talking about the new album, how it was devised and how it represents a duo with an almost symbiotic understanding of each other that produces, as the journalist writes, a feel from start to finish of “a cypher with your DJ, and the DJ kept changing the beats“.

For fans of Constant Deviants and those with an interest in the mechanics of operating as an independent artist or label in what would be classified as “real hip hop” today, the interview makes for excellent reading.

Ande-Shout4Music

A couple weeks after the release of his debut EP “Ocean$”, rising Southern rapper & producer Ande Bishop chopped it up with the UK’s online publication Shout 4 Music.

They discuss his entrance into the music industry starting out in production and he speaks about his influences before providing some further background on his American Roulette organization. He outlines his approach to songwriting and his reasons for switching focus onto his own solo career having provided production for stable mate Londn Blue’s EP “False Hope” last year.

Having given his thoughts on the local Southern music scene and the reaction to his new EP, they then discuss his new track “Window Seat” which was simultaneously premiered by the online magazine.

Southern rapper & producer Ande Bishop has crammed a lot into his first 5 months as a solo artist

Having produced for fellow American Roulette stablemate Londn Blue on the “False Hope” EP released last year, the switch of focus onto his own career at the beginning of 2015 has seen a string of releases premiered and featured on sites such as The Source, Elevator Magazine, Mechanical Dummy, JackThriller and his first official video “MoneyorFriendz” aired on VH-1 and MTV.

New Jersey’s 050 Boyz release their new album “Everything 050” on 4th August.

Despite this being their debut album as a group, the trio are no novices to the world of hip hop. Prince AK began as hype man for Flavor Unit’s Supreme C before an acting course with Tracey Moore (50 Cent, Busta Rhymes & Eve) saw him swap the mic for tv and film roles for a number of years.

Riq da Kid and Tru Trilla and their respective groups at the time joined Garden State Greats in 2004, a collaborative movement formed by Treach (Naughty by Nature) and Fam (Rottin Razkals) to help unify and promote artists in New Jersey. Now operating as solo artists, the original 5 members came together again in 2012 to rekindle the spirit of GSG and formed 050 Boyz.

With the support of DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), they released the mixtape “050 Dat” in 2013 before evolving into the current line up and recording the new album which has been produced entirely by long standing associate Clinton Place (Kurupt, Yukmouth, Gillahouse)

From the album is the new single “Pay Them No Mind” featuring DoItAll and NJ vet Tha Advocate
