A couple of weeks ago in the lead up to the release of their debut album “Everything 050”, New Jersey hip hop group 050 Boyz jumped on the phone with London’s multi-genre publication Guestlist Network.

The publication is produced online and as a monthly newspaper covering music news, events, clubs, tours and fashion from a national and international perspective

The trio of Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK formed as a group in 2011, but have been involved in the Garden State’s hip hop scene since the Golden Era of the 1990’s discussed their early days and life in Newark before addressing their aims for the group and also for their individual endeavours.

The interview moves on to the influence daily life in New Jersey has in their music and the subject matter they address, specifically within the new album, and how they differentiate traditional hip hop culture in comparison to that represented in the more mainstream commercial sector.

The interview concludes by the group explaining the approach to the production on the album, handled entirely by long time associate Clinton Place – aka DJ Jamal #9. One of the most in-depth interviews given by the group in recent times which you can read in full HERE

Earlier this week, the album which also features Treach (Naughty by Nature), Lakim Shabazz, DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), Ib the Druid, Tha Advocate, Fam (Rottin Razkals) and many more was released and is available from iTUNES

New Jersey hiphop group 050 Boyz released their debut album “Everything 050” yesterday. It is available to buy now on iTunes HERE

The three Emcees Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK all have links with Brick City Newark, Illtown, East Orange, and take their name from NJ’s area code. Individually they were also involved with the Garden State Greats movement around 10 years ago, a concept devised by Treach of Naughty by Nature and Fam of Rottin Razkals to unite the local hip hop scene.

Involvement with GSG played a part in the formation of the group in 2011, and certainly the focus in representing the area remains true. The album itself is heavily represented by featured local artists including Treach, DoItAll, Lakim Shabazz, Fam, Tha Advocate, B Wells, Ib the Druid and many more. It is entirely produced by Clinton Place, a long time associate of Prince AK from their days of performing together with Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit artist Supreme C.

The group have just signed a new management deal with Inkwell Entertainment in NYC who also represent artists such as Treach and Syleena Johnson, and you will be able to hear them live on DJ Eclipse’s Halftime Show on WNYU next Wednesday 12th August from 10.30pm EST when they appear as his special guests. They will also be guests on J Hart’s Big Bang Show on the UK’s Break London station two nights later, Friday 14th August.

The debut album by Newark hiphop group 050 Boyz releases this coming Tuesday, 4th August 2015.

Riq da Kid, Prince AK and Tru Trilla have put together a banger from start to finish, assisted greatly by the production by their long time associate Clinton Place.

“Everything 050”, just as with the group named after the area code for New Jersey, is one for the heads. Neck breakin beats, raucous delivery & energy, on point lyricism, it’s like the good ‘ol days while being aware it’s 2015. There’s also features from Treach (Naughty by Nature), Lakim Shabazz, DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), Famiil, Tha Advocate, IB the Druid, B Wells and many more, including a lil UK flavour from WiseRap.

Speaking of the UK, the trio chopped it up with London’s I Am Hip Hop Magazine recently to discuss how the group formed and their links with Treach and the Garden State Greats movement, the artists who inspired them and their traditional and ongoing focus on representing New Jersey. Having come up through the Golden Era, they also highlight the new wave of artists they rate, they discuss the process on choosing producers, and Clinton Place himself speaks about his involvement with the album.

With less than a week until the release of their debut album “Everything 050” on 4th August, and having just stepped off stage at the Lincoln Park Music Festival at the weekend where they absolutely tore it down, Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince AK – aka 050 Boyz – took time out to chop it up with US online REUP Spot.

They spoke about their performance at the festival, their years in the game and the camaraderie which exists among them. They then to move on to discuss the recording process of the new album and how they feel their sound and approach is in sync with and represents New Jersey, as they further explain the involvement of so many other local featured artists from the Garden State on the album.

Taking their name from the local area code, and given their previous involvement with Treach’s Garden State Greats of 2004, current involvement in local youth programmes and determination to shine a light on others from the scene, their committment to their home State is clear. First broadcast on air last week on Canada’s CHRW 94.9FM, the full audio stream of New Jersey’s 050 Boyz interview with Chase March for The Word is Bond Rap Radio Show has now been uploaded onto the WIB website.

Constant Deviants celebrate the 20th anniversary of releasing their debut 12″ single “Competition Catch Speed Knots” next year, and last week released their new album “Avant Garde”.

Last week, Emcee M.I. and producer DJ Cutt were in New York and dropped by the GID Radio studios in Brooklyn to appear as guests on the Not 97 Show hosted by Mic Handz and the Smokin Aces crew.
