Some quality production too courtesy of Edinburgh’s Sci Fi Stu, France’s Kyo Itachi and both North Carolina and Cali are repped’ with beats from Wonder Boy, Akthentik Works, Devaron Benjamin and Gav Beats – a mix of classic soul, hip hop & rock with a healthy inclusion of turntablism make this well worth a listen for all hip hop heads who appreciate the realism

UK multi genre online Hit The Floor Magazine have just conducted an interview with E where he speaks on his early days in the game and his thoughts on the scene now compared to back in the day, his new album, the meaning behind his name and also his new joint “H.T.G.” which was also premiered today by HTF.

Los Angeles Cali, Greensboro NC & Camden NJ….theyve all been or are home to hip hop veteran Emcee ethemadassassin who has just released his 3rd solo album “Soul on Fire” today

Starting out in the rap battle scene during what’s often referred to as the Golden Era of hip hop in the 90’s, E’s music has always reflected his life in an open an honest way. Growing up in tough times, he got educated, travelled and developed both personally and musically.

The current album is a snapshot autobiography reflecting back on the early days and updating on the here& now. Tracks such as “80’s & 90’s” and “Can’t Get Enough” have that classic soul and era vibe, whereas he lets loose with his renowned verbal assaults over the rockier joints like “Elements”, “Sparta” and “Fight Music”. The skills are in full effect on “Tiger Blade” and many props have been afforded to the deep sentiment portrayed in “Letter To Mommy”

He describes the album as just “the latest chapter in my book of life“, but this album is full of true street stories – he’s lived and seen it, there’s no fantasy rap goin on here

UK online music magazine Subba Cultcha covers a wide variety of genres, featuring news on artists, releases, interviews and more

The publication’s Ben Bradford took time out recently to speak with Los Angeles hip hop emcee EtheMadAssassin ahead of the release of his third solo album “Soul on Fire” on 17th September.

Something of a veteran in the independent scene…and not just as part of Cali duo Veteran Assassins…he started out based in Greensboro NC and also spent time in Camden, New Jersey before making the move to the west coast primarily to start the new group with his partner in rhyme Veteran Eye.

The interview is preceded with an overview of the new album itself “if you want to learn of life on the streets, particularly in the 80s and 90s then this is the place to come” adding “This is Assassin rap…where Ethemadassassin comes out fighting for you, fighting for himself, and fighting for people to be together and fighting against the bullshit…its an honest and breathtakingly direct approach, which has come to fruition on his new album ’Soul On Fire’”

London’s Broken Soul Boy is the latest to run the rule over the new album “Soul on Fire” by Los Angeles based emcee ethemadassassin (originally out of Greensboro NC)

Hard on the heels of a weekend when Choice FM London’s legenadry DJ 279 was going in hard with E’s singles Tiger Blade and Can’t Get Enough, the new review picks up the baton of support for this artist who started out in North Carolina’s rap battle scene in the 90’s, released two previous solo albums, moved to LA to form Veteran Assassins, and is now enjoying trans – Atlantic support for his 3rd solo LP.

Stateside online magazine MV Remix have just published their latest album reviews.

Included in recent releases by Ghostface Killah & Apollo Brown, U-God, Ace Hood, Murs & Mayer Hawthorne is the new album by ethemadassassin “Soul on Fire” which drops on 17th September.

The NC emcee, who also operated from Camden NJ before moving to Los Angeles to form Veteran Assassins, has years in the game from starting off in the local rap battle scene and releasing mixtapes in the 90’s, to releasing 2 previous solo albums and working with international producers.

One of the UK’s longest running online platforms specializing in hip hop music & culture, BritishHipHop.com, are the latest to review the new album by Los Angeles based Emcee ethemadassassin “Soul on Fire”

Having spent time in North Carolina and Camden New Jersey, E moved to California in the past few years to team up with Veteran Eye to form Veteran Assassins. Both still maintain solo careers, and “Soul on Fire” is the third solo album by ethemadassassin, following on from Tomorrow Never Comes in 2008.

British journalist Andy Fletcher gives the LP a thorough examination in this.

While its fair to say he finds the inclusion of the track Young & Foolish as incredulous due to its departure in sound from the rest of the album, he then goes on to acknowledge the qualities brought to the table here :

“E’s rhyme schemes and flow are tight and hold the album’s momentum. At the start of Sparta he makes use of repetitive rhymes, presumably to maintain his rhyme scheme and flow but it comes off as a small oversight. That isn’t to say that most of his lyrics aren’t well crafted. For the most part, they are. Gratitude is a stand out track with lyrics that will force you to take them in, ‘I’m not the example of living, I’m the spectacle… my nigga Truck took a bullet to his testicles’. These sorts of lyrics pack the content thick and leave a strong, if unpleasant, aftertaste of the world that Ethemadassassin is documenting. This is really where E shines and you’ll hear some of this realist, street approach to lyricism in tracks like lead single Tiger Blade.”

London based online magazine Blacksheep have been covering all things hip hop for several years now

They are the latest to cast an eye over the new album by ethemadassassin, an emcee now based in Los Angeles as part of the duo Veteran Assassins, but who came up through the NC scene in the 90’s before making the switch a few years ago.

The magazine’s Andrew Kay opens his review of “Soul on Fire” with :

“Coming to my attention on this, his third album, ethemadassassin, from North Carolina gives an assured showcase of his talent, with witty wordplay and crowded, but sophisticated and soulful production- if you will, drum foundations with the boom and the bap laced with instrumentation to keep the shoulders shuffling, the brain nourished and the heart beating.”

A track by track breakdown follows which also acts as a good insight to what makes this artist tick. The review, allocated a 4/5 rating, is summarized with :

“Soul on Fire’ is an apt title for a nicely crafted and lyrically rich thirteen cut platter of gangster rap. Quite a bit more intelligent, thoughtful and less ignorant and knuckleheaded than the genre has been used to from other rappers who talk about money, bitches, guns and cars.”
