Long Beach rapper Matt Maddox, now based in Kansas in America’s midwest, releases his sophomore solo album “Righteous Fury” on 25th February via Red Phone Records / Seven 13 Music.

He follows in the international theme of his original Guerilla War Tactix crew with features and production from both sides of the Atlantic, including C Lance of Jedi Mind Tricks, Vanderslice, the UK’s Edd Bundy & turntablist DJ TMB, Tragedy Khadafi, Reef the Lost Cauze, Sicknature of the Snowgoons, Nemesis, Skammadix, King Magnetic and many more.

UK online publication Blacksheep Magazine have reported on authentic hip hop with superior beats and lyricism for many years, and their writer Andrew Kay gave “Righteous Fury” a test drive to see how it delivered

A 4 star review which dissects the production, lyrical content & flow, particularly his comparison of the legacy left by the true greats to some contemporary representation of the genre in “No Country For Old Men” is summarized “Maddox might come from the Mid-West, but don’t let that judge it or fool you- he’s the real deal: a post recession MC that says something, keeps your head rocking, your brain ticking and giving rap some injection of purpose. Kansas based emcee Matt Maddox teams up with Canadian producer Engineer (Ras Kass, Immortal Technique, Sean Price, Termanology) on this new single “No Country For Old Men” delivering a raucous tribute to legends in the game while taking aim at the portrayal of the culture today.

The album launch event takes place this Saturday, 7th December, upstairs at The Vibe Bar, 91 Brick Lane, Shoreditch, London E1 6QL. The night runs from 8pm – 1am, nearest tube station is Aldgate East (a 5 minute walk east of the venue), entry price is £5.00 on the door and photo ID is advised in line with most venues’ current policy.

Apex will be playing tracks from Reality Provoking Reality with a live band, and anyone familiar with his involvement in the group The Pantheonz of Zenn-La will know to expect a highly energetic show!

Also performing will be Caxton Press, Iron Braydz from Triple Darkness and spinnin ’em on the decks will be DJ A.Gee from the city’s re-established hip hop radio station Itch FM. Hosting the event will be Peaches.

Having already performed an exclusive freestyle video for leading British online hip hop site UKHH.COM some weeks ago, their contributor Ethan Everton has also now reviewed the album Reality Provoking Liberation which released on 28th October.

The article is yet another endorsement among many publications who have covered the release in the past couple of months, opening “Potentially the rawest truths that you’ll hear on record for the remainder of the year, the philosophies behind the wordplay in Apex Zero’s almost entirely self-produced début album Reality Provoking Liberation is if anything a reflective experience for any listener.”

It is in fact a very in depth appraisal of the album, delving into the finer points of the tracks and is summarized “As stated at the beginning, this is more than an just album to muse too. It’s intention is to bring about a new mentally aware consciousness that’s being prohibited in ways unimaginable.”

We said that the debut solo album by London’s Apex Zero was one of the biggest for UK hip hop in 2013, and it appears that the internationally renowned publication that is MOJO Magazine would agree.

In their current edition celebrating their 20th anniversary, they have afforded “Reality Provoking Liberation” a 4 star review, describing it as a “DIY stunner” which will have “Fans of Triple Darkness, Dead Prez and Immortal Technique piqued by the arrival of fresh political rap blood”

It’s been a key underlying factor in the level of media interest created by the album from the rapper & producer, the mix of political and social issues addressed with a fierce delivery and conscientious lyricism, once a standard for the genre but a rarer entity in recent times. But green shoots of recovery are evident in releases from both sides of the Atlantic in the past couple of years, and Apex Zero has emerged as another new name adding his own weight to the re-establishment of the anti-establishment.
