Baltimore rapper M.I. and New Jersey producer DJ Cutt – aka Constant Deviants – released their new album “Omerta” on June 28th this year.

They originally formed in Brooklyn and spent a week back in the area at the time of the release appearing on various radio stations promoting the new record. This time a themed release with metaphorical references to the mafiosa underworld, they adopted the roles of Luciano & Lansky in a series of sonic vignettes employing the traditional art of storytelling while retaining their trademark sound.

The most recent review appears on page 77 in the current issue of French printed publication Jazz News Magazine which is in stores now, and is included with coverage on an eclectic range of artists including Eric Clapton, Mndsgn and Brooklyn’s The Golden Grass. A new feature on west coast rap group Horseshoe Gang has just been published in US online magazine Rhyme Junkie.

Written by their contributor Peter Johnstone, it provides some background information on the crew before focusing on their album “Anti-Trap Music” which was released through Seven 13 Music & Entertainment on April 29th. By highlighting several of the tracks and their contrasting styles, the review notes the consistency in the quality of lyricism present throughout.

The article finishes by providing news of yet another new album due out in September called “4 Brothers”, designed as a limited edition release which will be available only from the label direct.

East coast duo Constant Deviants released their new album “Omerta” on June 28th.

Their fifth official studio release following “Concrete Utopia”, “Amongst Friends”, “Diamond” and “Avant Garde” has a theme running throughout, inspired initially by M.I. and DJ Cutt’s respective Italian and Russian heritage, though other factors helped shape the overall concept.

Baltimore MC M.I. and New Jersey producer DJ Cutt – aka Constant Deviants – released their fifth studio album “Omerta” on June 28th.

The duo who first formed while they were based in Brooklyn followed last year’s critically acclaimed “Avant Garde” by adding an additional twist with this year’s album, applying a theme throughout based on their respective Italian and Russian heritages.

The “mob” references are metaphorical, juxtaposing lifestyles by adopting the roles of Luciano and Lansky who shared their nationalities. A series of short stories demonstrate situations in a comparative way rather than the hackneyed “mafiosa rap” of the past.

Their fifth official studio album, Constant Deviants released “Omerta” last week, June 28th

French online In The Mood TV have just featured it today, picking up specifically on the themed concept which runs throughout. There were various contributory factors to this approach. M.I. and DJ Cutt drew on their respective Italian and Russian heritage and adopted the roles of Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky due to the cultural parallels. It is entirely metaphorical in nature presenting contrasting lifestyles in a series of sonic screenplays.

The edgier production compared to previous release “Avant Garde” sets the tone and was in itself inspired by the energy generated at a show they performed with Sean P in Switzerland.

Constant Deviants began their visit to NYC promoting their new album “Omerta” last Sunday with their appearance on DJ Eclipse’s Sirius XM Rap is Outta Control Show, and on the final day of their stay in the city they head over to Brooklyn this evening to guest on The Bodega Cold Kutz Show.

The show hosted by J2ThaMar and Jay Drilla has DJ Joe Bodega and DJ Toshi on the decks, and tonight will also have Fred Ones and Rhinoceros Funk from Guerrilla Grooves Radio in the studio. M.I. and DJ Cutt were guests of The Bronx’s Guerrilla Grooves show earlier this week

It is definitely going to be lively as Baltimore, New Jersey, The Bronx and Brooklyn will all be represented in the house!

Constant Deviants released their new album yesterday, June 28th, through Six2Six Records.

Available to buy from their BANDCAMP and it is also being distrbuted worldwide on vinyl format. It’s one of those records you really want to hear through the big speakers, absolutely bangin!

A new review was published today in the US online 7th Boro. Their writer Scyren Joseph presents some background information in the introduction then a full track by track appraisal. In summary, her conclusion is “M.I. has that grimy persona and voice that I love and DJ Cutt is a beast on production. I was really digging this album. Definitely Scy approved. Go cop that shit right now! You won’t be disappointed.”
