The magazine also jumped on Skype recently to speak with MC M.I. of Constant Deviants who is himself of Italian descent, referred to in the theme of the new album “Omerta” out on June 28th where he assumes the role of Lucky Luciano.

The role playing aspect of the concept album is consistent with M.I.’s additional focus on film writing, acting and film production. His new movie “Six2Six” co:starring Treach, Syleena Johnson and Chief Rocker Busy Bee is set for a special screening at this year’s Hip Hop Film Festival, chaired by Ralph McDaniels, taking place the first week of August at NYC’s National Black Theater.

He has also been shooting scenes for another new movie “Can’t Live Without My Radio” in Baltimore, a comedy set in a radio station, likely to be released in 2017.

ATM-SagiHipHop

West coast crew Horseshoe Gang released their new album “Anti-Trap Music” last Friday, April 29th, through Seven 13 Music & Entertainment.

Within the first hour of release, Amazon reported that they had sold out all CD stock…now replenished…and the album is a Top 50 seller on iTunes in 15 different countries. It’s a testament to the extent of the group’s international fanbase.

Among recent video and written reviews is this new one published today by French online Sagi Hip Hop

A 4 star review, a rough translation of their summary reads “No fillers, mammoth firecrackers, Horseshoe Gang keep the quality high and to the point over 11 tracks.” with extended sections of the article given over to the theme of the album title, specifically calling into question the lyrical content and influence that particular genre has on a younger generation. The album itself diversifies into a range of subject matter, real life issues, which in itself justifies the title.

ATM-7thBoro

West Coast hiphop crew Horseshoe Gang sat down with Scyren Joseph from online publication 7th Boro recently in the build up towards the release of their fourth studio album “Anti-Trap Music” on April 29th – available to pre-order on iTunes HERE

In another typically frank and in-depth interview, the group chopped it up about the new album and how it compares to their considerable back catalogue including mixatpes and EP’s, the automatic association of their name with their elder brother KXNG Crooked while being dubbed “The Left Coast Slaughterhouse”, and how with them being brothers, the family dynamic affects the creative process.

The discussion moves on to the underlying messages within the new album with much of it addressing current hip hop, before sedgewaying into the subject of the culture’s position within today’s mainstream society and whether independents feel they must compete against, or utilise a more populist approach.

All this & more can be read in the full feature HERE

ATM-SamTheAuthor

Another article about the release just published is this new review by new US online “Sam the Author” run by freelance journalist and author Samuel Odunsi Jr who has written previously for titles such as Dead End Hip Hop.

Quoted from the review, “The album is relentless with lyricism and interesting production choices that range from the old school to the futuristic.“, you can read his full appraisal HERE

HG8

West coast crew Horseshoe Gang are back with a new single, the third taken from their album “Anti-Trap Music” which releases on April 29th on Seven 13 Music & Entertainment.

In “Shoe-icide Squad” these lyrical marksmen use rhymes like bullets to address the increased number of young black men killed at the hands of the police. The evident rage in the delivery is understandable where black lives matter, and the neck breaking beat provided by Tabu (Kedrick Lamar, Aftermath) is the perfect backdrop with its classic G-Funk flavour.
