A month after releasing their groundbreaking new album “Panacea” through New Dawn Records, London rapper Phoenix da Icefire and producer Husky Brown chopped it up with the UK’s online Urban Vault.

In the new interview just published the pair discuss how they came to work together, the construction and concepts behind the album and the aspects of which they are particularly proudest.

Phoenix also provides further information about his Sovereign Comics company and the community projects with which they are involved while future plans are also outlined. Read the article in full HERE

Released on May 5th, “Panacea” represents quite an exceptional body of work, both in terms of its fusion of hip hop, bass, dub, r&b, soul and electro weaved together by Husky’s production techniques, and the extremely powerful subject matter addressed by Phoenix, sadly all too relevant given recent developments.

Issues relating to the environment, well being, mental health, knife crime, positive aspirations, disengagement, The Windrush scandal and institutional racism more generally are all tackled with highly skilled lyricism, but refreshingly always with the underlying theme of offering solutions and hope for a positive future.

Look out for an official video for the track “The Humans are Coming” in the not too distant future, but meanwhile you can stream and download the album from Apple / iTunes, Tidal, Amazon or here on Spotify

London’s rapper / producer duo Phoenix da Icefire and Husky Brown have today released their highly impressive new album “Panacea” through New Dawn Records.

As a member of Triple Darkness, Phoenix has long been regarded by many both at home and overseas as one of the most gifted lyricists to emerge from the UK. Husky’s productions are a rare and dynamic fusion of contemporary hip hop, electronica, dub, bass, r&b and soul which provide the soundtrack for a narrative addressing many of today’s most pressing issues.  Delivered with trademark dexterous rhymes and creative wordplay, Phoenix sets his existential sights on the environment, mental health, knife crime, racism, well being, relationships and inner city life.

Facing the challenges head on, the engaging commentary still retains a refreshing message of hope at its core related through metaphorical concepts as abstract as they are grounded in reality. A multidimensional and unique debut offering which pushes boundaries and breaks from formulaic convention.  Essential listening.

London’s rapper & producer duo Phoenix da Icefire & Husky Brown warm up for the release of their phenomenal new album “Panacea” on May 5th with this new single “The Humans are Coming” b/w “Travelling Buddy” out today through New Dawn Records.

As expected of the Triple Darkness member, Phoenix combines the highest caliber rhyme skills and imaginative wordplay to tackle many of the most pressing issues facing society today, none more so than in the new AA side.  Amidst the frenzy of Husky’s highly charged electronica fuelling “The Humans are Coming”, Phoenix pens a letter of contrition to the mythological Gaia for the damage done to her environment, while the atmospheric “Travelling Buddy” is a poignant message of empathy & support to all facing the challenges of mental health issues.

A further remix of “Travelling Buddy” is courtesy of renowned UK beatsmith Chemo aka Telemachus (YNR, High Focus, KMJ45)

It’s a welcome return to the hip hop fold for rapper and producer Az Izz from the legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, known for their early work with Wu Tang, The Fugees and D12 and who counted Pace Won and Rah Digga among their numbers.  His new album “Dopeliss” is out July 3rd through New Dawn Records, and the first single taken from it released today.

The self produced “Gettin’ It” features East Orange luminary Drift, and over the funked up percussive beat the pair trade claims for what’s theirs   while also bringing a little extra traditional rap beef to the table, in this case a historic tussle with Royce da 5’9″.  The accompanying video was also released today, shot in the back yards of Brick City.

Digitally distributed by Ingrooves / Universal and available from Apple, Amazon, Tidal and Spotify
