New video released today, “Enough” appears on the alnum ‘Beautiful Foundations’ by New York State rapper & producer duo Tone Chop and Frost Gamble, released through New Dawn Records on May 15th.

Featuring fellow Binghamton native Doc Holiday, it’s a sobering account of an all too familiar issue experienced in most towns and cities. The lyricism is on point as Chop reflects on the devastating effects Class A addiction has had on his community, and particularly as a father himself, the young lives left in ruins.

The rage against heroin, meth and those who peddle for profit is a measured retaliation against the destruction caused by the few, yet felt by the many. Impeccable social commentary from the veteran wordsmith, the video also ends with a helpline to call for anyone affected by the issues addressed.

A landmark release for the pair marking their working together for over three decades, they continue the celebrations this coming Saturday May 30th with their special album launch event.

It takes place at The Stellar Human vintage clothing store situated at 159 Washington Street, Binghamton. Beginning at 6pm, entry is free and will include an album listening session, artist discussion on making the album with q&a, and a screening of their autobiographical documentary which was first premiered on Youtube last week.

Laced throughout with the kind of bullish bars and beats which earned it a front page spotlight on Bandcamp, the New Jersey veteran assembled a heavyweight line up of guest featured artists and producers to deliver a classic soundtrack fuelled by the highest calibre lyrical firepower.

Produced by Frost Gamble, the latest cut is a further testament to the levels.  Tru drops knowledge with Brooklyn’s Justo the MC and Floridian NapsNdreds in another showcase of dexterous rhymes and slick flows by verbal marksmen at the height of their game.  The narrative is reinforced by the “Qataban Remix” courtesy of label affiliate Shahin, flipping the script with an intense fusion of strings, breaks and sub Saharan flavas that hits differently.

Like its predecessors ‘Sun Rays’ ft Reks & Lakim Shabazz, and ‘No Joking Around’ ft NB.S. & Recognize Ali, the new joint packs a ferocious punch with another salvo of raw energy for the senses.

Veteran NY State producer Frost Gamble fans the flames coast to coast like butta’ on toast. Unleashed on the beat, Tru trades robust verbal blows with Brooklyn’s Ruste Juxx before Shoe Gang member Julius Luciano gets in on the action. To mark the fifth anniversary since re-launching in 2019, New Dawn Records have today released the new single “No Joking Around” by New Jersey rapper Tru Trilla.

Following last month’s ‘Sun Rays’ featuring Reks and Lakim Shabazz, this is the second to be taken from the forthcoming album “XVI : Return of the Gods” out in May.

On the new cut, the Brick City veteran has recruited another Garden State native in the form of Jamal Nueve, originally affiliated with the legendary Flavor Unit crew as DJ Jamal #9. Now resident in California, the multi credited producer has delivered a funk fuelled banger laced with ferocious bars from lyrical marksmen in the heavyweight division.

The gloves are off as Boston’s Flash and V Knuckles of N.B.S. join Tru and Recognize Ali on the rampage, exchanging trademark punchlines as combinations thrown in a barrage of body blows to would be contenders. Rugged and uncompromising, high frequency lyrics with no prisoners taken, the result is undisputed.

Hip Hop label New Dawn Records have today announced that they will be releasing the new album “XVI : Return of the Gods” by New Jersey rapper Tru Trilla on May 31st 2024.

We have worked with Tru on a number of occasions, initially in 2015 when as part of the group 050 Boyz they released the album ‘Everything 050’. Well received on an international scale, this resulted in the group’s appearances on Sirius XM as guests of both DJ Eclipse and DJ Premier

Fast forward to 2020, and with the re-launch of our parent company New Dawn Records the year before, we worked with Tru on a solo basis for the first time beginning with his ‘Seymour Chronicles EP’ followed a few months later with his album, the classic banger ‘God of Barz’.

In the early half of 2021, discussions took place between the label, Tru and our production division outlining the concept of its natural successor. The planning process completed, work began later that year in the early stages of its construction.

Most of those who appeared in “God of Barz” would be involved representing continuity, but this time the net would be cast a little wider with additional production contributions and guest featured artists from further afield.

A methodical and thoughtful approach which saw the recording process completed in the Spring of 2023 which has allowed Tru to craft a dynamic masterpiece, the manifestation of progression while retaining the heart and soul of the original. The tracklist speaks for itself.

A series of singles will precede the album, beginning with “Sun Rays” on January 30th. Accompanying videos for all tracks will also appear on the label’s Youtube channel.

Released today, new single “Fine Line” by Brooklyn rapper Justo the MC and Edinburgh producer Brelstaff, taken from the album ‘Urban Testimony’ which released on November 3rd through New Dawn Records and has just been featured on Bandcamp’s front page New & Notable spotlight section.

The album’s entire theme depicts events leading up to, during and following Justo’s curtailed and troubled time studying at Clark Atlanta University some years ago, and the future chosen with lessons learned.  “Fine Line” documents a conflicted mind, weighed down by the expectations derived from a background of faith while straying from the path of opportunity in a rueful narrative.

Brelstaff’s atmospheric soundtrack cuts deep into the concept, and was first broadcast on BBC Radio 1’s Focus Beats programme during the summer.

Released today through New Dawn Records, the new album “Cautionary Tales” by award winning Ithacan rapper Anthony Kannon and veteran New York State producer Frost Gamble, now resident in Canada.

Authentically powerful, the young lyricist draws on his own real life battles and challenging circumstances to convey a wide range of subject matter represented throughout the aptly titled release.  Having survived the trauma of being shot by armed intruders to the family home, it is a remarkable journey encapsulated in a series of biographical depictions, all with an underlying theme of survival, escape, progression and transformation. 

This is Storyville of a life less ordinary handled with impressive maturity through a narrative packed full of dope rhymes and skillful wordplay set to the highest caliber soundtrack provided by Frost, himself a Juno Awards nominee for his production on Fresh IE’s “Ill Street Blues” in 2020.

The pair have two upcoming album launch events, the first at The Osborne Taphouse, Winnipeg on Thursday October 26th, then on Saturday November 18th at Deep Dive, Ithaca.

Released today, “Sunday” marks the final chapter of the forthcoming album ‘Urban Testimony’ by Justo the MC and Brelstaff, out on November 3rd through New Dawn Records.

Track by track the Brooklyn rapper narrates his ill fated time attending Clark Atlanta University, documenting the journey which led to a turning point in life.  A fascinating insight of a mind conflicted with regrets, but here also in the latest offering to one filled with hope for the future and lessons learned.

Brelstaff’s soulful cool groove production mirrors the upbeat renewed sense of optimism contained within the trademark slick rhymes.  Scarred but undaunted and emboldened by second chances, the art of storytelling lives on.

Rapper and producer Az Izz, formerly of legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, returns with the self produced AA side single “Ghetto” b/w “Crazy” out today, the third from his new album “Dopeliss” releasing through New Dawn Records on July 3rd.

Together with Pacewon, Young Zee, Rah Digga and D.U., the Brick City crew were noted for their work with The Fugees, Wu Tang and a new emerging force from Detroit at the time, D12.  More recently pursuing a career in tv, film and sports music production, Az marks his arrival back with a first major solo offering in several years which blends the sounds of hip hop through the ages.       

On “Ghetto”, the classic sound of the east coast prevails through guitar hooks and blaring brass on journeys to the gritty underbelly of the city, bars portraying street tales from the hood in the daily battle between survival and aspiration. Meanwhile on “Crazy”, aptly named for these times, heavy kicks and electronica fuel the adrenaline of a chaotic Brick City ride accompanied by fellow group member D.U.

Brick City rapper and producer Az Izz of the legendary Outsidaz crew is on the comeback trail with his new album “Dopeliss” releasing through New Dawn Records on July 3rd.

Following on from last month’s “Gettin’ It”, new single “Nunya” has been released today.  Produced by another Newark native Qua Z Mo, it’s a fuel injected electro banger powered by heavy 808 kicks with Az on the front foot from the outset.  Packing the verbal artillery, targets are placed in the sights and gauntlets thrown down through a series of combative rhymes and punchline bars “Ya whole career is a publicity stunt, how you black, ain’t kick a rap about your history once“.  Stoking the fires, pure heat for the streets.
