New heat released today by London producer Ramson Badbonez.

“Lead by Example” is the title track from his new album out on August 27th through New Dawn Records, and the second single taken from it following last month’s “Stay True” ft Reks, Ruste Juxx and Blacastan”.

His debut behind the boards, the beatmaker has assembled a stellar line up of hip hop heavyweights from the US, UK and Canada as the guest featured artists, the latest joint laying down another early marker of the levels.

Driven by a soundtrack fuelled with soulful horns and smoky breaks, Ghana’s finest Recognize Ali jumps in the ring like his namesake to “fly like a butterfly and spit some heavy punches” with Brooklyn’s acclaimed lyrical marksmen Skyzoo and Juxx Diamondz, all taking it in turns to deliver a salvo of relentless rhymes that drop a bag full of jewels on the unsuspecting.  The beat gets bodied as masters of their craft dispatch verses with precision engineering while the UK’s turntablist DJ Jazz T provides the scratch sorcery.  A premium cut for the connoisseur.

Fresh out the blocks today, the new single “Stay True” by London based producer Ramson Badbonez, the first to be taken from his album “Lead by Example” releasing through New Dawn Records on August 27th.

Rarely has a tracklist seen such a line up of hip hop heavyweights from both sides of the Atlantic share equal billing, and this joint sets the agenda early.  Neck muscles get a serious work out with a beat savagely torn to pieces by east coast warriors Reks, Ruste Juxx and Blacastan with all their renowned verbal artillery in full effect.   “Rawer than the booger suga”, it’s formidable business, prize fighters trading fierce bars and pulling no punches in a lyrical onslaught which leaves contenders on the floor.  Hip hop addicts, crank this all the way up for the ultimate fix.

Available on all digital platforms including APPLE MUSIC, TIDAL MUSIC, AMAZON MUSIC, SPOTIFY & BANDCAMP

Originally broadcast live on July 15th, Brick City rapper Tru Trilla sat down with host Sim of Washington DC’s popular Youtube Channel “The Front Stoop”.

In line with the channel’s focus on addressing broader current issues affecting society and hip hop directly, the pair first discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic both in a personal and professional context, and the veracity of information being provided to the public at large.

While playing tracks from the album, the subject of conscious lyricism and the role it plays within the wider forms of contemporary hip hop was considered and compared before the interview moved onto Tru’s history in the New Jersey scene.

He explains the origins of his group 050 Boyz of which he is a member with Prince Ak and Riq, the source of its name, and how this led to building with Shade 45’s DJ Eclipse and DJ Premier before touching upon his early affiliations with Naughty by Nature and Lords of the Underground.

Of course at the heart of the interview is his new album “God of Barz” where he breaks down the concepts, subject matters and construction, and speaks on his history and future working with the album’s producers from the States, UK and Europe.

With production by Chicago’s DNA Beatz, the UK’s Chat One, Barcelona’s Sumerio Square and Clinton Place (aka Jamal Nueve NJ/LA), the album also features Prince Ak, Confucious, Fly Kwa and Middy Murdock.

Rapper and producer Az Izz released his new album “Dopeliss” through New Dawn Records earlier his month, marking a return to the hip hop fold after several years having spent time working on tv, film and sports productions.

Formerly of the legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, an extensive click which included Pace Won, Rah Digga, D.U. and Young Zee among their numbers, they were also noted at the time for a number of collaborative projects involving Wu Tang, The Fugees and a new emerging force from Detroit by the name of D12.

Known for a quirky and humorous approach to his rhyme schemes, the album musically also represents the evolution of the genre from the boom bap of “Ghetto” to electro bangers such as “Nunya” and “Gunz n Dice Games”.

New video out today by Brick City’s lyrical marksman Tru Trilla, “Real Rap” featuring fellow 050 Boyz group member Prince Ak is taken from his album “God of Barz” released through New Dawn Records on May 29th.

Filmed in downtown Newark just before the turn of the year, the pair trade verses over a hard edged gritty beat produced by Barcelona’s Sumerio Square.  Set on a verbal warpath, the seasoned veterans deliver punchline salvos of hard bars against weak representations and pale imitations in equal measure, dismantling defences with the ease of prize fighters earning stripes for their home State.  Some spicy heat for the street, 050 Dat !

Rapper and producer Az Izz, formerly of legendary New Jersey group The Outsidaz, returns with the self produced AA side single “Ghetto” b/w “Crazy” out today, the third from his new album “Dopeliss” releasing through New Dawn Records on July 3rd.

Together with Pacewon, Young Zee, Rah Digga and D.U., the Brick City crew were noted for their work with The Fugees, Wu Tang and a new emerging force from Detroit at the time, D12.  More recently pursuing a career in tv, film and sports music production, Az marks his arrival back with a first major solo offering in several years which blends the sounds of hip hop through the ages.

On “Ghetto”, the classic sound of the east coast prevails through guitar hooks and blaring brass on journeys to the gritty underbelly of the city, bars portraying street tales from the hood in the daily battle between survival and aspiration. Meanwhile on “Crazy”, aptly named for these times, heavy kicks and electronica fuel the adrenaline of a chaotic Brick City ride accompanied by fellow group member D.U.

A month after releasing their groundbreaking new album “Panacea” through New Dawn Records, London rapper Phoenix da Icefire and producer Husky Brown chopped it up with the UK’s online Urban Vault.

In the new interview just published the pair discuss how they came to work together, the construction and concepts behind the album and the aspects of which they are particularly proudest.

Phoenix also provides further information about his Sovereign Comics company and the community projects with which they are involved while future plans are also outlined. Read the article in full HERE

Released on May 5th, “Panacea” represents quite an exceptional body of work, both in terms of its fusion of hip hop, bass, dub, r&b, soul and electro weaved together by Husky’s production techniques, and the extremely powerful subject matter addressed by Phoenix, sadly all too relevant given recent developments.

Issues relating to the environment, well being, mental health, knife crime, positive aspirations, disengagement, The Windrush scandal and institutional racism more generally are all tackled with highly skilled lyricism, but refreshingly always with the underlying theme of offering solutions and hope for a positive future.

Look out for an official video for the track “The Humans are Coming” in the not too distant future, but meanwhile you can stream and download the album from Apple / iTunes, Tidal, Amazon or here on Spotify

Brick City rapper Tru Trilla released his much anticipated new album “God of Barz” through New Dawn Records on Friday May 29th 2020.

Rammed full of gritty rhymes, punchline bars and raucous lyricism, it is reminiscent of hip hop’s halcyon era, aided and abetted by guest featured artists Fly Kwa, Confucious, Middy Murdock and fellow 050 Boyz group member Prince Ak.

The album also benefits from the different production styles provided by Chicago’s DNA Beatz, the UK’s Chat One, Barcelona’s Sumerio Square and award winning Clinton Place (aka Jamal Nueve) originally of New Jersey and now based in Los Angeles. The sum parts contributing to the greater whole, pure energy being the common denominator.

A couple of in depth reviews have just been published by SoFlo Sound and Triple OT which articulate and reflect the overall concept and acknowledge the quality on offer.
