Released today through New Dawn Records, the explosive new album “God of Barz” by Brick City’s lyrical marksman Tru Trilla.

Planting a flag for both the Garden State and the classic east coast sound, the veteran rapper and Lords of the Underground affiliate has concocted an immense piece of work, rammed full of passionate bars, skillful wordplay and intelligent rhymes.  Championing the cause of the underdog, the disengaged and the traditional values of hip hop itself while tackling political tensions of racial profiling, corruption and deprivation, knockout lines are delivered with the ferocity of a prize fighter.  Newark natives Middy Murdock, Fly Kwa, Confucious and fellow 050 Boyz member Prince Ak are the featured artists, intensifying the energy with their own gritty lyricism.

The production brings extra layers and dynamics courtesy of Chicago’s DNA Beatz, Barcelona’s Sumerio Square, the UK’s Chat One and award winning Clinton Place (aka Jamal Nueve), originally of New Jersey and now resident in Los Angeles.   Rugged, raw and hardwired into the psyche of the street, this one’s for the heads.

London’s rapper / producer duo Phoenix da Icefire and Husky Brown have today released their highly impressive new album “Panacea” through New Dawn Records.

As a member of Triple Darkness, Phoenix has long been regarded by many both at home and overseas as one of the most gifted lyricists to emerge from the UK. Husky’s productions are a rare and dynamic fusion of contemporary hip hop, electronica, dub, bass, r&b and soul which provide the soundtrack for a narrative addressing many of today’s most pressing issues.  Delivered with trademark dexterous rhymes and creative wordplay, Phoenix sets his existential sights on the environment, mental health, knife crime, racism, well being, relationships and inner city life.

Facing the challenges head on, the engaging commentary still retains a refreshing message of hope at its core related through metaphorical concepts as abstract as they are grounded in reality. A multidimensional and unique debut offering which pushes boundaries and breaks from formulaic convention.  Essential listening.

London’s rapper & producer duo Phoenix da Icefire & Husky Brown warm up for the release of their phenomenal new album “Panacea” on May 5th with this new single “The Humans are Coming” b/w “Travelling Buddy” out today through New Dawn Records.

As expected of the Triple Darkness member, Phoenix combines the highest caliber rhyme skills and imaginative wordplay to tackle many of the most pressing issues facing society today, none more so than in the new AA side.  Amidst the frenzy of Husky’s highly charged electronica fuelling “The Humans are Coming”, Phoenix pens a letter of contrition to the mythological Gaia for the damage done to her environment, while the atmospheric “Travelling Buddy” is a poignant message of empathy & support to all facing the challenges of mental health issues.

A further remix of “Travelling Buddy” is courtesy of renowned UK beatsmith Chemo aka Telemachus (YNR, High Focus, KMJ45)

Just before the turn of the year, the UK’s online tv channel OnTrax visited New York and New Jersey to conduct a series of filmed interviews.

They sat down for 5 minutes with Brick City rapper Tru Trilla in the studios owned by local legends Lords of the Underground, and chopped it up about his earliest influences which naturally included the Lords, Naughty by Nature, Lakim Shabazz and Queen Latifah, and his journey starting out in hip hop.

He reveals his own original move from poetry to writing lyrics, and the passion felt in the creative process transferred to the listener, describing music as “art in motion and medicine to the soul” citing the track “I Remember” from his recently released EP “The Seymour Chronicles” as an example of the importance of writing from the heart.

Just published, watch the full interview on Youtube.

Released through New Dawn Records on March 17th, you can stream “The Seymour Chronicles EP” in full on Spotify

Tru will also be releasing his banging new album “God of Barz” through New Dawn Records on May 29th which includes production by Clinton Place (NJ/LA), DNA Beatz (Chicago), Sumerio Square (Barcelona) and the UK’s Chat One. The first single “Word of God” released on March 30th, again available to stream on Spotify
