MagnaCarta-UKHH

One of the longest running online platforms for British Hip Hop, UKHH.COM, took time out just before the new year to sit down with London’s Melanin 9 and speak with him on the new album “Magna Carta” which they have also reviewed in the same feature.

In the exclusive video interview, M9 speaks on his album, addressing the political, economic, personal & religious subject matter. He also speaks on how this album took his biggest effort to date in putting together in terms of concept and recording, and how the name Magna Carta relates to the overall theme, to liberate the people from from the shackles, help elevate them from the various pressures under which they live. He also gives appreciation for the public’s support on buying the album, new fans and old, and he finishes by spittin some freestyle barz to camera.

Magna Carta is available to buy digitally on iTunes now, and also available in physical CD format direct by mail order from http://m9ether.bandcamp.com

MagnaCarta-IAmMusicTV

The coverage of Melanin 9’s debut album “Magna Carta” continues into 2013.

Released on the 3rd December, it was one of the most written about UK hip hop albums of 2012, and the latest instalment is via James Savundra for London’s online platform I Am Music TV

Here he combines a review with an interview, with the London emcee speaking on putting the album together, the inspiration for the subject matter & writing process, selection of featured artists and the reasons behind there only being a relatively limited number and his plans for the new year.

The review itself is in depth and acknowledges the subject matter covered, the personal nature of the album and the skills on display as you’ll see from the introduction :

Magna Carta should come with a warning. If you think you’ve copped yourself an easy-listening, stereotypical hip-hop album, then I’d advise you to return it. Brace yourself to be taken on an adventure by British rapper, Melanin 9, who is already steadily making a name for himself as a real lyricist. This project certainly isn’t one for the faint hearted, as M9 (as he is also known) overpowers the listener with verses that come from within. Everything you hear is real

The journalist has obviously put a lot of thought into the piece, which you can read in its entirity HERE

Magna Carta is available to buy digitally from iTunes, and physical CD versions can be bought via mail order from http://www.m9ether.bandcamp.com

You can follow the guys on twitter @Melanin_9 James Savundra at @savzy007 and the site itself @IAmMusicTV

MagnaCarta-Bloggerhouse

The international coverage of Melanin 9’s debut album Magna Carta continues, this time via Stateside online Bloggerhouse, who have named it “Album of the Day” for Tuesday 18th December 2012.

very solid and enjoyable, with loads of replay value, “Magna Carta” is filled to the rim with quality cuts

The impact made by this release on the reviewer, with its emphasis on lyricism, wordplay and use of classic hip hop production was clearly significant :

Melanin 9 impressed the hell outta’ me with this one and I had no problem coughing up the dough for M9′s past efforts “144,000″ and “Orion’s Stencil” via his BANDCAMP page

Its just the latest in a long line of trans-Atlantic endorsements for the London emcee over the past couple of months, and also further indication that far from being dead, the classic sound of hip hop is very much alive & kicking and connecting with a new generation of fans. Just simply a stunning piece of art” is how the review is summarized which you can read in full HERE

MagnaCarta-ItchFM

There’s little question that this has been a landmark release for the London emcee with such an extensive of international media coverage, and it was also good to see the re-emergence of London’s Itch FM who featured Ryan Proctor’s review in Old to the New. Anyone involved with British Hip Hop will be well aware of the role the radio station played over many years in supporting artists such as Blak Twang, Jehst, Phi Life Cypher, Task Force, Skinnyman and many others, before winding up operations a few years back.

However theyre back online, and you can see the feature at http://www.itch.fm/melanin-9-magna-carta-review/

Meanwhile, Stateside online magazine Surviving The Golden Age has reviewed the album, again picking up on the strong influence of the Golden Era of 90’s hip hop contained within the release.

Comparing his “raw, hard hitting hip hop beats” to that found on Nas’ “Illmatic” (not the first time the comparison has been made), and like Nas & Biggie “his lyrical content deals with his city….North London” the magazine cites the track “Heartless Island” and credits Melanin 9 as “a highly literate rapper as he references House of Flying Daggers in the same breath as soliloquies
