Butta Da Prince first set the Chicago streets buzzin with the release of his 2009 Mixtape “Millionaire Minded : The Album Before the Album” produced by DJ Holiday. He worked with Holiday again on 2011’s “Butta” before releasing 2012’s “The King and Da Prince”, this time hosted by DJ Hustlenomics

Since then, Butta has teamed up with Seven 13 Music. They’ve just revisited the joint “Dolla Bills” from last year’s release to give it the remix treatment, and this time Slaughterhouse’s Crooked I also brings some additional lyrical heat to the table on this 808 bass heavy production

Now working on new material for 2014, the track is available on iTunes HERE

SoulonFire-SampleFace

The latest review of the new album Soul on Fire by ethemadassassin comes courtesy of UK online magazine SampleFace.

Afforded a 4/5 rating by reviewer Taytula Burke, on the beats and production she opens:

E curates beats from producers like SciFi Stu, Kyo Itachi, Wonder Boy and Gav Beats resulting in crazy guitar riffs, soulful vocal samples and jazzy piano keys being used as the soundtrack for a joyride through the mind of a veteran emcee.

The review is another to reflect well on E’s work on the mic with his “lyrical prowess” and subject matter, summarizing “this is an album worth having in your collection if you expect hip hop to have more than just rhyming couplets and a catchy hook.

SoulonFire-SubbaCultcha

UK online music magazine Subba Cultcha covers a wide variety of genres, featuring news on artists, releases, interviews and more

The publication’s Ben Bradford took time out recently to speak with Los Angeles hip hop emcee EtheMadAssassin ahead of the release of his third solo album “Soul on Fire” on 17th September.

Something of a veteran in the independent scene…and not just as part of Cali duo Veteran Assassins…he started out based in Greensboro NC and also spent time in Camden, New Jersey before making the move to the west coast primarily to start the new group with his partner in rhyme Veteran Eye.

The interview is preceded with an overview of the new album itself “if you want to learn of life on the streets, particularly in the 80s and 90s then this is the place to come” adding “This is Assassin rap…where Ethemadassassin comes out fighting for you, fighting for himself, and fighting for people to be together and fighting against the bullshit…its an honest and breathtakingly direct approach, which has come to fruition on his new album ’Soul On Fire’

The interview itself covers details about the single and video for “Can’t Get Enough”, the making of Soul on Fire, working with the producers on the LP, how he formulates the ideas behind his rhymes & lyrics and the general writing process, the formation of Veteran Assassins and the days in when he started out in NC and the artists who acted as his own main influences.

An artist with his own unique style & personality, he sums it up :

I found my pocket a long time ago and I definitely don’t try to emulate anyone, its like being yourself isn’t cool, I have my own way of doing things” read the whole interview HERE

London’s DJ Elma has a “Kick This” series on Youtube where she’s interviewed artists such as The Pharcyde, Slum Village, Genesis Elijah, Dublin’s Workin Class Records and many more

In late August, she met up with west London hip hop artist Apex Zero in Brixton to speak on his music, new album Reality Provoking Liberation and his various political views which form much of the subject matter for the album

As a student of African history, African-American figures such as Malcolm X & Huey Newton and politics, not surprisingly in this interview he outlines his views on corruption, social cohesion, oppression, justice, war, peace, the political systems at home and overseas and much more. It was his introduction to legendary hip hop artists such as Immortal Technique, Nas, Dead Prez, Tupac & Wu Tang which motivated the young man to study more, and it has come full circle as he now portrays his views as an Emcee.

Whether you agree or disagree with his points of view, he articulates his thoughts well whether in the form of his rhymes or in the setting of an interview, something which has been commented upon by various members of the media to date

Check the full interview on Youtube

The album releases on 28th October. There have already been several video & single releases from it, including Chaotic Revolt and A Meeting of the Continents featuring Hasan Salaam & Iron Braydz

SoulOnFire-ClashMag

The new Rapture & Verse hip hop column written by Matt Oliver is live today in the UK’s Clash Magazine

In what’s been a huge summer of record releases & tours, the column is a summary of the month’s hottest news, mixtapes, videos and albums from around the world. This month includes coverage of Nas, Drake, Riff Raff, Eminem, Earl Sweatshirt, Breaking the Illusion, Meek Mill, Dr Zygote, Cappo, G Frsh, Chaotik Stylz, Del the Funky Homosapien, Tony Touch and many more, including news on the new Soul on Fire album by Los Angeles (via North Carolina) emcee EtheMadAssassin.

Releasing on 17th September, the contemporary production combined with powerful lyricism – all still drawing from key elements of the Golden Era in which he started performing – is drawing plaudits for its style & approach

The piece is summarized:

Carolina native Ethemadassassin spits unequivocally with gruffness reminiscent of a Rasco or Bun B. Definitely not a believer in dead air, ‘Soul On Fire’ is a belly-burning blaze needing no second invitation to be stoked. Two beats to have you picking up dumbbells, and soul samples resting easy so ETMA can sharpen his bluntness – ‘80s and ‘90s’ letting splash misty-eyed twinkles, ‘Crazy’ a cool Cadillac spin – the Veteran Assassin exudes an air that you’re gonna have to earn the right to get past him.

This week he launched his new single “80’s & 90’s” produced by the UK’s SciFi Stu with whom he has recorded the future Veteran Assassins LP.

SoulOnFire-HHK

Los Angeles (by way of Greensboro NC) emcee ethemadassassin releases his new Soul on Fire album on 17th September, the third solo LP from one half of the Veteran Assassins duo.

Coming up through NC’s rap battle scene during the Golden Era, the new single “80’s & 90’s” produced by UK beatsmith Sci Fi Stu speaks on these days. Anyone familiar with the sights and sounds of the time will recognize the fashions name-checked and lifestyle represented throughout.

Described in a recent album review “fired up by a dope reminiscing beat, the dreamy backdrop empowers Ethemadassassin to throwback to times gone by with inspiring effect” , the single is one for the Tru Skool heads through the generations.

The single was premiered today by the UK’s HHK Mag (aka Hip-Hop Kings) where he also gave an exclusive interview and insight into his days starting out as an artist during hip hop’s Golden Era, he speaks on the impact of the internet for artists by comparison to those early years, the current focus on 90’s fashions and culture happening now, opening for Immortal Technique and Wu Tang and of course his new album and working with international producers.

It’s a fascinating read for all those interested in the historical aspect of hip hop from the perspective of an artist who has lived through it and still performing and evolving his style to this day
