Hip Hop Breath is a quarterly magazine published on Issuu.

It is edited by Parisien DJ LSM who hosts the “Medicine Show” among others and also releases various mixtapes. With the focus very much placed on the more traditional elements of the culture and music, the magazine has been running for 5 years and featured artists of the calibre of Talib Kweli, KXNG Crooked, Pharoahe Monch, DJ Whoo Kid, Joell Ortiz, Jon Connor, Ras Kass and many more.

In the new issue just published today, they feature Detroit rapper ZotheJerk who released his new album “Black Beach” on May 26th with producer Frost Gamble. They speak with him about the concept behind the album, the origins of his working relationship with Frost, and the background to his receiving a Humanitarian of the Year award for services to the community

US online ‘Da-What’ runs a series called Da Five Finger Discount where artists discuss five tracks they’ve released which have significant meaning to them and the reasons for their importance.

In the main they will relate to tracks from a new EP or album, but can include others from their careers which they felt were of particular note.

The latest in the series just published features NY State rapper Tone Chop and Winnipeg based producer Frost Gamble. The duo have known each other since the 90’s when originally rap battle rivals turned partners in rhyme and tagging in upstate NY.

However due to Frost’s subsequent re-location they pursued solo careers until re-uniting this year for their first official collaborative release, the EP “Veteran” out this Friday, November 18th, a taster for an album due out in 2017.

In the feature, the pair include two singles from the EP. “Leave It Alone”, a tribute to Sean Price, features Ruste Juxx and Nobi while “Step Up” coincided with the launch of their first official music video last week.

Frost also highlights a previous project with Rakim’s son Tahmell, whiile in his dual role as a producer, Chop discusses his collaboration with Tom Gist.

Binghamton NY rapper Tone Chop and Winnipeg based producer Tone Chop release their debut collaboration EP “Veteran” on November 18th through Seven 13 Music & Entertainment.

Available to pre-order on ITUNES, the 7 tracks are the product of two artists who began as rap battle rivals in upstate NY before becoming partners in rhyme and tagging. Frost’s subsequent move to Canada saw the pair pursue solo careers, Chop releasing a whole series of mixtapes including collaborations with Tom Gist, St Laz and Jinx Da Juvy.

Now fully focused on beatmaking, Frost’s earlier productions saw him work with Sadat-X, Rakim’s son Tahmell and J-Ro. Earlier this year he contributed to Seven 13’s “God Bless Dope Rappers” compilation which also featured Royce da 5’9″, Horseshoe Gang, Kid Vishis and Crooked I.

Rapper & producer duo Tone Chop & Frost Gamble release their debut “official” EP on November 18th through Seven 13 Music & Entertainment.

Once rivals in upstate NY’s rap battle scene, the pair joined forces in rhyming and tagging during the 90’s before Frost’s relocation to Canada. While remaining in touch, they pursued solo careers with Chop releasing a numerous mixtapes which included collaborations with Jinx Da Juvy, St Laz and Tom Gist

The pair have been connected since the 90’s when originally as rap battle rivals they came together as partners in rhyme and tagging in Binghamton before Frost’s re-location. Chop’s released numerous mixtapes over the past decade which included collabroations with Jinx da Juvy, Tom Gist and St Laz, while Frost, now fully focused on production has worked with Sadat-X, Rakim’s son Tahmell, J-Ro, ZotheJerk and the award winning Fresh I.E.

The EP has that distinct feel of the Golden Era while retaining a sense of the modern age, a fact picked up by Andrew Kay in his review which has afforded the release a 5 Star rating in Blacksheep Magazine.
