Detroit’s Kid Vishis has just released the first single from his debut album which is due for release in March 2014 on Seven 13 Music.

The younger brother of Royce da 5 9 is no novice having started out in the city’s open mic circuit over 10 years ago, and first dropped some verses on the M.I.C. Vol 1 mixtape in 2003. Over the past 10 years he has toured the States, Canada and Europe with D12, Slaughterhouse and performed at shows with Slum Village, Rakim, Ghostface, Talib Kweli and Slick Rick.

Honing his craft live to international audiences and releasing multiple mixtapes including the “Sick ‘Em” series, as well as appearing on Royce’s albums “Street Hop” & “Success is Certain”, Kid Vishis has become one of the most respected lyricists of the next generation, and the album one of the most eagerly anticipated for many years. Production is courtesy of names such as Mr Porter & Freddie Foxxx, with the first single “Heaven” showcasing Vishis’ wordplay over beats by Nemesis

SoulonFire-DataTransmission

British online magazine DataTransmission is well known for its coverage of all type of dance music, from techno, house, dubstep and all other genres in between, reporting from all around the UK and hotspots such as Ibiza, Aiya Napa and various other European resorts & cities.

They also like their rap and hip hop music, and have just reviewed the new album Soul on Fire by rapper ethemadassassin, currently based in Los Angeles but most associated with his native North Carolina where he started out performing in the 90’s.

One half of Veteran Assassins, this is E’s third solo album which released on 17th September, and Janine Francois cast an eye over his most recent offering

ethemadassasin, lives up to regal standards as set by his previous releases such as, ‘Proverbs’ and ‘ Tomorrow Never Comes’ both dealing with the chaotic lifestyle lived by this Golden Era emcee” is how the review opens which notes his lyrcism, wit, humour, sarcasm and “hard cold truths” in what is an audio biopic of his life from his early days to the “latest scene in the movie of his life today”.

The album has received much credit for its open & honest approach, owning up to past mistakes, acknowledging struggles and successes, and also having a healthy dose of retrospective flava for those who remember or are fans of the sights, sounds and fashions of the 90’s.

The review summarizes “ethemadassasin does himself justice and for hardcore fans you will not be disappointed, as he lyrically delivers the goods. For those new to this ageless rapper, it is recommended you reference previous works to gain some context on ‘Soul on Fire.’ The album does just that, bares his soul for us to hear.

SoulonFire-WordplayMag

British Publication Wordplay Magazine exists in both online and printed formats, and cover hip hop news, reviews & features, as well as articles on Graffiti, Fashions, Breakin’, Reggae and generally represent hip hop culture across the board.

Their contributor Delphina Scott spoke with ethemadassassin recently, the rapper based out of Los Angeles but most associated with North Carolina having begun performing and recording there since the 90’s. Now one half of the Veteran Assassins duo, he has just released his 3rd solo album “Soul on Fire” on his own R Steel imprint.

In the interview he speaks on the making of Soul on Fire, his own history in hip hop and his views on how his new album fits within the current climate of a switch back of focus to artists with a more traditional sense of lyricism and production.

The album does have elements which are a throwback to the Golden Era, but that fits with the tracks where he is reflecting on his life and the sights & sounds of the time in joints such as 80’s & 90’s & Can’t Get Enough. This is mixed with more contemporary production on tracks such as Elements, Tiger Blade and Fight Music, as the album acts as a biographical document, a journey from then til now

SoulOnFire-SBTV

The UK’s leading online youth broadcaster SBTV was set up by young entrepreneur Jamal Edwards a few years ago while still in his teens. For overseas readers, he built the site up from filming freestyles of new artists all over London, throwing them up on Youtube, and the view rate was literally massive.

Fast forward to today and he still supports the UK scene but also has content from some the biggest international artists around. When he’s not mixing with Virgin owner Richard Branson or Prince Charles, he’s appearing on BBC Breakfast TV promoting his new book. It has been quite a phenomenal rise for a brand now valued in the millions on the stock market. If you didn’t know the name before, research it!

His in house team also provide news, features and reviews, and the site’s Fiona Guest is the latest to run the rule over the new album by ethemadassassin. Most associated with Greensboro NC, the now LA based rapper released his third solo album “Soul on Fire” on Tuesday 17th September.

The review is headed “a potent mixture of lyrical agility and social consciousness” and is summarized “Soul On Fire is a mature drop from a seasoned MC, with a breadth of experience and skill under his belt. If you’re ready to hear the emotional realness of what E terms his ‘book of life,’ give it a listen.” Read the whole review HERE

SoulonFire-SampleFace

The latest review of the new album Soul on Fire by ethemadassassin comes courtesy of UK online magazine SampleFace.

Afforded a 4/5 rating by reviewer Taytula Burke, on the beats and production she opens:

E curates beats from producers like SciFi Stu, Kyo Itachi, Wonder Boy and Gav Beats resulting in crazy guitar riffs, soulful vocal samples and jazzy piano keys being used as the soundtrack for a joyride through the mind of a veteran emcee.

The review is another to reflect well on E’s work on the mic with his “lyrical prowess” and subject matter, summarizing “this is an album worth having in your collection if you expect hip hop to have more than just rhyming couplets and a catchy hook.

SoulonFire-WordisBond

Los Angeles Cali, Greensboro NC & Camden NJ….theyve all been or are home to hip hop veteran Emcee ethemadassassin who has just released his 3rd solo album “Soul on Fire” today

Starting out in the rap battle scene during what’s often referred to as the Golden Era of hip hop in the 90’s, E’s music has always reflected his life in an open an honest way. Growing up in tough times, he got educated, travelled and developed both personally and musically.

The current album is a snapshot autobiography reflecting back on the early days and updating on the here& now. Tracks such as “80’s & 90’s” and “Can’t Get Enough” have that classic soul and era vibe, whereas he lets loose with his renowned verbal assaults over the rockier joints like “Elements”, “Sparta” and “Fight Music”. The skills are in full effect on “Tiger Blade” and many props have been afforded to the deep sentiment portrayed in “Letter To Mommy”

He describes the album as just “the latest chapter in my book of life“, but this album is full of true street stories – he’s lived and seen it, there’s no fantasy rap goin on here

He took time out recently to speak with Chase March from The Word is Bond’s Rap Radio Hour. Hear the entire audio interview online HERE

You can check out all the tracks and buy the album on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/soul-on-fire/id685226091

SoulOnFire-NikSquared

London’s Broken Soul Boy is the latest to run the rule over the new album “Soul on Fire” by Los Angeles based emcee ethemadassassin (originally out of Greensboro NC)

Hard on the heels of a weekend when Choice FM London’s legenadry DJ 279 was going in hard with E’s singles Tiger Blade and Can’t Get Enough, the new review picks up the baton of support for this artist who started out in North Carolina’s rap battle scene in the 90’s, released two previous solo albums, moved to LA to form Veteran Assassins, and is now enjoying trans – Atlantic support for his 3rd solo LP.

The review acknowledges that “he continues to fly the flag for native Hip Hop with that old skool, organic soundscape.” and that on the album itself “A collection that is firmly rooted in a classic Hip Hop sound, that does honour its heritage with some slick beats and engaging lyricism

Summarized “Fans of the vintage Hip Hop sounds that are being maintained in today’s generation thanks to the likes of Talib Kweli or Torae, should definitely investigate this album as this is well placed in your collection. But on top of that, a few punchy singles are lurking away on this album, which should be checked out in its own right, especially the ‘80s & 90s’ jam.” you can read the whole review HERE

Look out for a new single being released shortly together with new features & reviews. Meanwhile, check out the single Tiger Blade and video Can’t Get Enough

MagnaCarta-InSpirels

In-Spirels Magazine is a London based lifestyle online magazine covering music, fashion, hair & beauty and much more, with the focus being on those who inspire others and act as positive role models via their achievements.

Recently, the publication’s Taytula Burke interviewed Melanin 9 for their “1 2 Watch” feature.

They discuss his new album “Magna Carta”, what acts as his main motivations, his thoughts on hip hop generally and the journalist picks up on his approach to writing :

If you haven’t guessed by now, Melanin 9 is not your average ‘money cash hoes’ type of spitter. His name alludes to the fact that he has a deeper way of thinking than your average guy on the corner……

Speaking of genius, I think there was a hint of that going on during the composition of Magna Carta. The LP has a throwback ‘diggin’ in the crates’ kind of vibe; so if you are bored of the monotonous computer generated sounds around, you’ll love the jazzy soulful tones and ‘real hip hop’ beats that M9 flows effortlessly over…..

If you are into British hip hop, this guy should definitely be on your playlist. Melanin 9 already has a solid international fanbase and I can only see Magna Carta helping the numbers to increase.

Its a really well put together piece by the magazine, a good insight to the artist’s thoughts as well as analysis of the album itself. Read it in full HERE

The album is available on iTunes and the CD version can be bought directly by mail order via http://m9ether.bandcamp.com

MagnaCarta-IAmMusicTV

The coverage of Melanin 9’s debut album “Magna Carta” continues into 2013.

Released on the 3rd December, it was one of the most written about UK hip hop albums of 2012, and the latest instalment is via James Savundra for London’s online platform I Am Music TV

Here he combines a review with an interview, with the London emcee speaking on putting the album together, the inspiration for the subject matter & writing process, selection of featured artists and the reasons behind there only being a relatively limited number and his plans for the new year.

The review itself is in depth and acknowledges the subject matter covered, the personal nature of the album and the skills on display as you’ll see from the introduction :

Magna Carta should come with a warning. If you think you’ve copped yourself an easy-listening, stereotypical hip-hop album, then I’d advise you to return it. Brace yourself to be taken on an adventure by British rapper, Melanin 9, who is already steadily making a name for himself as a real lyricist. This project certainly isn’t one for the faint hearted, as M9 (as he is also known) overpowers the listener with verses that come from within. Everything you hear is real

The journalist has obviously put a lot of thought into the piece, which you can read in its entirity HERE

Magna Carta is available to buy digitally from iTunes, and physical CD versions can be bought via mail order from http://www.m9ether.bandcamp.com
