Their contributor Matt Watkins spoke with local hip hop Emcee and producer Iron Braydz recently to discuss his new EP “Verbal sWARdz” which releases on 14th April, the comparisons between the UK and US hip hop scenes, and the influences from the early days which have stayed with him

The 10 track EP which also features Sean Price, Prince Po, Triple Darkness, Phat Kat, Kyza & Skriblah…with a special appearance by Kiss FM’s DJ Shortee Blitz… is the first of a planned series of releases over the coming year for one of the UK’s most gifted lyricists, and you can also expect to see him make an appearance in a new independent film Night Bus later in the year. Meantime, check out his new video “Dredd” which, as with the majority of the EP, is also self produced.

The international media coverage on the new EP “Verbal sWARdz” by north London hip hop Emcee & producer Iron Braydz continues with this new review by American online publication Rap Essence

Ahead of the release of his first solo album in 10 years, “Lock’d N The Lab” due out late August, Bumpy Knuckles releases his new EP “The Mix Files” on 18th June as a joint venture on Seven13 Music and Krupt Mob.

Made up almost entirely of new material which will not appear on the album, it includes the previously released Ask the Coach, Word ft Sy Ari Tha Kid and this new single Somn’Wrong

Both the EP and album are entirely self produced by Freddie Foxxx. This will be a busy summer for Bumpy with the release of his EP, album and the putting together of a new UK and European tour for later in the year. He is also working on some further collaborations which should see the light of day in the coming months

Elementz is a new event taking place in London which celebrates the traditional 4 elements of hip hop

The classic disciplines, deejaying, emceeing, bboy breaks & throwdowns and graffiti

Planned as a quarterly night, it aims to showcase some of the biggest established names in the scene together with giving new emerging talent the opportunity to shine, all knowledge under one roof. The main focus is on UK talent initially, but wont be confined to that in what is a global culture which has produced so many positive benefits for those involved.

The launch night takes place at The Rhythm Factory, 16 – 18 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1EW. Its in the Shoreditch area of town, nearest Tube station being Aldgate East.

The night will use both the venue’s rooms.

From 8pm – 3am, the line up is as follows:

ROOM 1

DJ Sets from DJ Sarah Love (resident), DJ 279 (Choice FM), DJ Mr Thing (Scratch Pervert / DMC Champion), DJ Snips (Livin Proof)

Live performances by Caxton Press (who will also be celebrating Kingpin and Amy True’s birthdays), showcasing tracks from their new Devil May Care album, Genesis Elijah, approaching legendary status from the days of “So Hip Hop” to current BBC Radio 1 support for his Painkillers & Pilkington EP & hosted by Mystro, another long time in the game with much respect for his work over the years. Currently promoting What Kind of Drug is Mystrogen” EP. New talent on stage will come in the shape of London’s Naba Napalm and Ether L Banks

ROOM 2

Open Mic session, live graffiti courtesy of FDC, and a bboy / bgirl throwdown including members of London’s Scope Hip Hop Dance Theatre Company. Its the room designed for all in attendance to participate, whether in a dance off, testing their rhyme skills with the crowd or anything else they think they can bring to the table

This room is hosted by DJ Snuff, organizer of End of the Weak and Speaker’s Corner, who will also be on stage with Caxton Press in the main room and DJ Johny Garcia

The live hip hop scene has grown considerably around the UK in the past year or two, thanks to some extent to the popularity of events such as Dont Flop’s rap battles, and the participation element that brings with it. A new generation has become interested in the history of the culture, and Elementz looks to provide a night which represents a broader experience and understanding. And in the traditions of hip hop, give an opportunity from the old to the new.

Price on the door is £8.00, this is an 18 and over event and dress code is casual but the venue advises “no tracksuits”

Each event will also be filmed by the UK’s leading online platform The Hip Hop Chronicle for future broadcast

Currently releasing a series of freestyle videos and exclusive new tracks, this comes ahead of the launch of the final instalment in the EP Trilogy “I Came I Saw”. The new EP includes further videos and new special footage which will be seen over the coming months, all leading up to the release of his new single “I Get Busy”

Three is the magic number for this Kilburn MC, now based in the south Bronx.

The 3rd & final part of his video documentary has just gone live to the internet.

Part 1 documents his work within a New York label, which also features Steve Rifkind, Yelawolf and he freestyles for Wu Tang’s RZA

Part 2 again shows him behind the scenes working in the label, and he speaks on the balance between his job there and furthering his career as an independent artist

Part 3 shows us a typical day in his life, how he manages his time between his “day job” and stayin on the grind, with some exclusive footage of him performing at Think Pink Rocks in 2010 and behind the scenes footage of his video shoot for “I Get Busy”

He has just launched the first new single from the EP “I Came I Saw Vol 3”. Featuring NYC’s singer Shareen Amour, “I Told You So” is a statement of intent from Jamieson that his grind on both sides of the Atlantic will continue to make 2012 his best year yet.

Almost exactly a year ago, Genesis Elijah released his collaboration album with UK production duo Krate Krusaders “Before I Was Famous”.

Not the type to hang around, on the 1st of January 2011 he released the first of what would be many new videos and internet singles, all of which can be seen at his youtube channel “GenesisElijahTV”. He also released his mixtape “I Aint Even Charging Bruv” while working on his new forthcoming album.

The consistency of output increased over recent months as he got himself a new video camera and put a series of freestyles and singles together, released something new almost every 2 – 3 weeks, the most recent of which is this new video for “My Truth” which is taken from a new EP “Painkillers & Pilkington” (a reference to An Idiot Abroad’s Karl Pilkington)

Appropriately, on My Truth, he samples dialogue from Pilkington’s colleagues on the show Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to spell out his motivation and thoughts.

The Brixton MC, now based in Watford, is easily one of the hardest workin in the game.

VAST AIRE – “THE CANNON OF SAMUS REMIX” ft Kenyattah Black and Context MC

A new August 2011 exclusive remix of Vast Aire’s “The Cannon of Samus” featuring Kenyattah Black & the UK’s Context MC. Produced by AreWhy, the original version appears on Vast’s album Ox 2010 : A Street Odyssey out on Man Bites Dog Records now. The album also includes features from Cappadonna, Raekwon, Vordul Mega & Guilty Simpson on The Verdict, a track which also recently had a recent UK remix featuring Haze from Eurogang.
