The latest episode of the online tv chat show “Rapping with Leiberman”, hosted by SiriusXM’s Jon Leiberman, has just been broadcast. The new series invites rappers, dj’s & producers to discuss the latest news issues of the day together with providing updates of their own careers

His latest guest is the Bronx’s actress, poet, community activist, musician and rapper Caridad de la Luz, aka La Bruja.

The term “artist” is often over used, but in this case it’s barely adequate. Probably one of the reasons the Bronx Music Heritage Centre presented her with the accolade recently of “Bronx Living Legend”

Born to Puerto Rican parents and brought up in the Bronx, she gained recognition for her early performances at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe before delivering a renowned performance of the self penned “WTC” on HBO’s Russell Simmon’s Def Poetry Jam in 2002 reflecting on events of 9/11.

Her acting career which has seen her perform in many tv and stage plays, including her own “Boogie Rican Blvd” took off with her performance as “Cuca” in Spike Lee’s “Bamboozled”. She then released her album “Brujalicious” in 2006 mixed by DJ Precision of the X-Executioners and featuring among others Joell Ortiz, Chingo Bling, Tony Touch, Jadakiss and The Jungle Brothers. She performed in the UK and Germany in support of the release including a performance in London on the same billing as Amerie.

Her dedication to helping and empowering youth and women saw her involved in various organizations including the setting up of Latinas4Life and providing poetry workshops in schools, youth centres and jails. During the interview which touches upon Indiana’s policy of providing clean needles to combat AIDS, she compares that to the work she did for a project in Hunts Point.

Similarly on the subject of the false Virginia University rape allegation made by Rolling Stone Magazine, her work with various different women’s assistance programmes allows her to relate the potential consequences for women with this kind of story, and also allows her to speak with authority on the subjects of the gender wage gap and Hillary Clinton’s chances of becoming president given recent issues raised regarding her campaign funding.

Other subjects tackled include legalization of marijuana, the death penalty for the Boston Bomber….and her thoughts on the new Star Wars film…..

Having performed a few bars live, La Bruja then speaks about her current projects including appearing in the musical “Betsy”, stage play Shadowlands and her plans to record a tribute album to the late Cuban singer-songwriter Celina Gonzalez

Cincinnati MC Buggs tha Rocka sat down with The Word is Bond’s Chase March recently to discuss his new album “Scattered Thoughts of an American Poet” which releases on 10th December 2014.

Broadcast first on 17th November on CHRW 94.9FM(London Ontario) and repeated Saturday 22nd November on CFMU 93.3FM (Hamilton Ontario) for the WIB Rap Radio Show, the interview has just been streamed on the publication’s Soundcloud.

Cincinnati’s Buggs tha Rocka jumped on Skype recently with the good folks over at New Zealand’s online “When Did You Fall In Love With Hip Hop” to talk about his new album “Scattered Thoughts of an American Poet” and his development in the hip hop scene which has led him to be afforded the title “Best Hip Hop Artist of 2014” by the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards

They also discussed his live performances with Talib Kweli, whether at the A3C Festival for two years running or at the recent Eternal Reflection reunion show, the results of which are due to working with local pair Donte (MOOD) and Hi Tek from an early stage.

Buggs has of course released two previous mixtapes with Mac Miller’s tour DJ Clockwork, and he was invited to perform with the pair at the recent Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles which also saw sets by Pharrell Williams, Tyler the Creator, Rick Ross, Earl Sweatshirt, Murs, Action Bronson, Step Brothers, Vince Staples and many more

London’s Apex Zero prepares for his Reality Provoking Liberation album launch party with the release of this brand new joint straight out the lab, “Transcendental Emcee”.

The debut solo album was released to wide critical acclaim on 28th October, and this new track brings a lil’ different flava courtesy of Frank Freeman’s production, while Apex displays his trademark skilled wordplay and lyricism

The launch event takes place this Saturday, 7th December, upstairs at The Vibe Bar, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL. Having already performed an exclusive freestyle video for leading British online hip hop site UKHH.COM some weeks ago, their contributor Ethan Everton has also now reviewed the album Reality Provoking Liberation which released on 28th October.

The article is yet another endorsement among many publications who have covered the release in the past couple of months, opening “Potentially the rawest truths that you’ll hear on record for the remainder of the year, the philosophies behind the wordplay in Apex Zero’s almost entirely self-produced début album Reality Provoking Liberation is if anything a reflective experience for any listener.”

It is in fact a very in depth appraisal of the album, delving into the finer points of the tracks and is summarized “As stated at the beginning, this is more than an just album to muse too. It’s intention is to bring about a new mentally aware consciousness that’s being prohibited in ways unimaginable.”
