Constant Deviants released their new album “Omerta” today, Tuesday June 28th.

A concept album drawing its theme principally from M.I. & Dj Cutt’s Italian and Russian heritage, it’s a series of sonic screenplays with familiar names, times, events and cultural reference points set in the mafiosa underworld through the decades.

Adopting the roles of Lucky Luciano and Lansky, the duo use the traditional hip hop art of storytelling by using the subject matter metaphorically to convey parallel meaning, and to quote M.I. directly “address the lifestyle more intelligently, given it’s been done to death in a cliched way so many times before whether in film or by other artists.”

East coast duo, M.I. and DJ Cutt – aka Constant Deviants – released their new album “Omerta” today.

It’s the pair’s fifth album since their debut “Concrete Utopia” and follows just a year after the critically acclaimed “Avant Garde”.

Broadcast originally last week on Canada’s CHRW 94.9FM and CFMU 93.3FM, you can now listen back to MC M.I.from Constant Deviants interview with Chase March for The Word is Bond Rap Radio Show…and the sound quality is top drawer !

In the interview, M.I. explains the thinking behind the new album title “Omerta” and the reasons for the theme running throughout. They speak on dumbing down lyrically, and how he experienced this during his time signed to Arista, but how his creative artistic instinct compelled him to return to the independent sector and set up Six2Six Records.

Given the support the group’s enjoyed for years from radio djs, regularly topping the college radio charts, M.I. speaks openly about his appreciation he’s always had for the DJ and the role they continue to play in giving artists exposure. The discussion sedgeways onto the use of Serrato, and as Six2Six label co:owner with a policy of releasing on vinyl, he outlines the time and financial implications of continuing to do so.

Now with a new significant move into the world of film making as an actor, writer and producer, he explains more about establishing Six2Six Films and his new film “Six2Six The Movie”. Starring Treach, Syleena Johnson and Chief Rocker Busy Bee, it will be be screened at NYC’s The Hip Hop Film Festival in August.

On learning he is currently filming a new comedy movie “Can’t Live Without My Radio”, Chase takes the discussion onto the wider subject of hip hop films such as “Straight Outta Compton” and the increase in new independent films emerging.

The interview includes some of M.I.’s solo tracks and a selection from previous album “Avant Garde” together with the new release “Omerta”

Little while back, Chicago journalist Sherron Shabazz, owner of the online The Real Hip Hop jumped on Skype with Long Beach group Horseshoe Gang shortly after the relase of their album “Anti-Trap Music”

They spoke at length about a variety of subjects beginning with the meaning behind the album title and the concept that large areas of hip hop today has moved away from carrying any real message of note.

The discussion moved on to their song “Shoe-icide Squad”, quoted by some as a modern day “Fuck The Police”, and the incident involving Chicago’s Laquan McDonald who was shot and killed by police is debated in the context of their single. The subject then moves to the years they’ve operated as a group, comparing that to most others who inevitably break up as the urge to fly solo becomes too strong, whereas the four brothers see their future as a unit.

The feature also sees them outline the knowledge passed down to them by their elder brother Crooked I while they go into some of the finer detail behind their well documented rap battle with Hopsin’s Funk Volume.

Well, it’s not often you get a genuinely good laugh doing this job, but just occasionally something turns up…..

Earlier this week, MC M.I. from Constant Deviants jumped on the phone with DJ D-Money, host of the weekly Fresh Juice Radio Show based out of Washington State.

The pair began by discussing the group’s new album “Omerta” which releases on June 28th, and then moved on to the rapper’s new additional focus of movie making. As co:owner of Six2Six Records, M.I. has become more involved in acting, film writing and film production, and has set up a new subsidiary Six2Six Films.

A new movie “Six2Six” will be screened at Ralph McDaniels’ Hip Hop Film Festival in NYC during August, and co:starring with M.I. is Treach (Naughty by Nature), Syleena Johnson and Chief Rocker Busy Bee. Some of the plot line is explained before the Baltimore MC reveals he is near completion of another new film, this time a comedy, called “Can’t Live Without My Radio”.

Then comes a regular section of the show where rappers play the radio version of the board game “What?”. Among the questions asked are “What do dogs think when owners dress them up in clothes?” and “What would you legalize?”

Second episode from the new “Tre Volte” live freestyle video series by east coast duo Constant Deviants.

“12 Gauge Rage” again sees M.I. and Cutt live in the studio reppin the traditional hip hop concept of an MC and his DJ, consistent with the theme of their recent bonus joint “Cutt for President”.

They release the new album “Omerta” on June 28th through their label Six2Six Records. Just announced, east coast hip hop duo Constant Deviants will be performing at the LoudPalooza event taking place in Baltimore on the night of Saturday, June 25th, 3 days before the release of their new album “Omerta”.

In association with Chief Loud and Maryland NORML, the event promotes discussion on the legalization of cannabis particularly for medical use with guest speakers including a retired major of Maryland Police and a Maryland State Delegate.

The entertainment is provided by local comedy and music artists, and with Constant Deviants’ MC M.I. being from the city, they were keen to give the event their full support.

The venue is Castaways Bar & Grill, 2206 Boston Street, Baltimore, MD 21231

Tickets are early bird $15 in advance with sponsorship bag included, $25 at the door and £35 V.I.P. which includes a free drink, Maryland NORML t-shirt and a free guest.

The following day, June 26th, Constant Deviants head north to spend a week in NYC meeting with media and appearing as special guests on various radio shows, starting with DJ Eclipse’s Rap Is Outta Control. The duo are also in the planning stage of scheduling a special album release party in the city for that week.

M.I. is currently filming scenes in Baltimore for the new movie “Six2Six” which will also feature Treach (Naughty by Nature), Selena Johnson and Chief Busy Bee Rocker, and the group are set to release a new joint “Cutt for President” early next week. In March they released the single “So Underrated” followed by the first of their new Tre Volte live freestyle video series “Hard in these Streets.

Multi-genre online UK magazine Shout4Music caught a few minutes with Long Beach hip hop group Horseshoe Gang last week just after the release of their new album “Anti-Trap Music”.

The interview focuses on the new album, the subject matter covered including the motivation behind its title, and the recording process. They also discuss how they feel they’ve evolved from their earlier releases and how they operate now in comparison to when just starting out, their passtimes outwith music and also the current political situation in the United States.
