London based I Am Hip Hop Magazine is both an online and physical printed publication which over the past few years has built up a strong readership based on their reputation for focusing on the traditional and authentic elements of the genre, featuring artists where the emphasis is on quality lyricism.

They sat down recently with westcost group Horseshoe Gang in the build up to the release of their album “Anti-Trap Music” on April 29th. They discussed the motivation behind the album title and leading on from that the return of a more widespread level of lyricism emerging in hip hop today. With just over 3 weeks to go until the release of their new album on April 29th, another feature has just been published on west coast hip hop group Horseshoe Gang.

This time, the UK’s online magazine Guestlist Network discuss the meaning behind the album’s title “Anti-Trap Music”, and the influence growing up in Long Beach has played in their approach to rap music. In this new exclusive interview, Stanley Florence from west coast online Raw Hip Hop Headz spoke with Long Beach crew Horseshoe Gang in the lead up to the release of their fourth studio album “Anti-Trap Music” on April 29th 2016

The group who are all blood brothers begin by talking about how their’s was a musical household as their mother and aunt were singers signed to a label in the 70’s. Subsequently, they explain how their initial steps towards becoming rappers were taken under the tutelage of their elder brother KXNG Crooked when from as early an age as 5 years old they were given rhymes to learn.

Influenced by artists including NWA, Tupac, Rakim and Jay-Z they speak about the advantage of having a special chemistry given their background and their aim to put more substance back into hip hop lyricism.

While acknowledging the role Kendrick Lamar and J Cole have played in re-establishing the craft, and indeed some who have helped bring the west back into focus, they explain more needs to be done, movements created, established and underground artists working together in unity to finally tip the scales.

The interview is then wrapped up as they discuss their tour with KXNG Crooked and Rittz last year, their well documented rap battle with Hopsin’s Funk Volume and of course, the album “Anti-Trap Music”.

Here they explain the tie up with the label Seven 13 Music & Entertainment through their previous work with Royce da 5′ 9″, Kid Vishis, KXNG Crooked and early involvement with the phenomenan that became Slaughterhouse.

They discuss their new album “Anti-Trap Music”, the concepts behind it and the recording process involved, and then give further insight into their well documented rap battle last year with Funk Volume and Hopsin’s subsequent break away.

West coast hip hop crew Horseshoe Gang sat down with the UK’s The Music Spot Magazine recently to chop it up about a variety of issues

They spoke about their early days, how they formed and the role their elder brothers Mad Man and KXNG Crooked played in their development before discussing the dynamics of operating as a group in preference to releasing solo projects.

The group then went on to talk about their new album Anti-Trap Music and the concept behind it, their plans to release a new comic book series, gave a snapshot tourist guide to Long Beach, explained the internal Jason v Freddy “dispute” and then sent a message to US presidential candidate (is that STILL a feasible description, really???!) Donald Trump.

On 30th August, Riq da Kid, Tru Trilla and Prince Ak – aka 050 Boyz – took the trip over to NYC with Treach from Naughty by Nature to appear as guests on DJ Eclipse’s Rap Is Outta Control Show on Sirius XM.

Other guests on the show were Boston’s N.B.S., and after the main interview sections, Eclipse got a cypher going with the members of the two groups. The Beeshine were on hand to film it, and the resulting video went live online today
