kv-timing is everything_final

British magazine Blues & Soul have just published their June / July edition which is available in some selected stores now.

They are the latest to give a full endorsement to the debut album by Detroit’s Kid Vishis, “Timing is Everything”, out 22nd July 2014 on Seven 13 Entertainment. The review appears on page 32, (the publication prefer it is not re-produced in full here) but if you wanted to read the full version try tracking down a copy from your local store first of all.

The younger brother of Royce da 5 9 has produced a number of mixtapes in the past as part of the “Sick ‘Em” series, and toured internationally. The first official studio album has been long awaited, and as the 5 star review by Simon Redley reflects “This is a landmark release, a fantastic calling card to tell the world he has arrived and is here to stay. A great showcase, shining the spotlight brightly on a talented emcee

The summary on the album which includes production by Mr Porter, Chase Moore of Hippie Sabotage, Nemisis and Nick Zervos concludes that Kid Vishis “has fierce rhyme skills and intelligent wordplay….it’s not the same old same old by any means. It’s fresh and it’s classy. Don’t ever underestimate the Kid. He’s a knockout

The album will be available in digital and physical formats internationally, and can be pre-ordered with signed copies from the label now at www.seven13ent.com

Kid Vishis will be in New York 9th July – 13th July to take in the “Total Slaughter” event at the Hammerstein Ballroom as well as meeting with local press & media, and you can keep up to date with his latest news on twitter @KidVishis

VerbalSwardz-UKHH

Latest review of the new EP “Verbal sWARdz” by north London Emcee & producer Iron Braydz, this time by the long running online devoted to British hip hop UKHH.com

The high regard with which his lyricism has been held in the UK for the past few years is summarized

Regardless of the flavour, Iron Braydz always serves up rhymes that are of the strictly highest order. With the exception of a select few, including a couple of whom from his own clique, nobody comes close to his pure rhyming prowess at this point in time. One can only assume that the projects over the coming months will explore different terrain but, for now, it is pretty exhilarating to hear this guy back spitting full stop.

RPL-UKHHreview

Having already performed an exclusive freestyle video for leading British online hip hop site UKHH.COM some weeks ago, their contributor Ethan Everton has also now reviewed the album Reality Provoking Liberation which released on 28th October.

The article is yet another endorsement among many publications who have covered the release in the past couple of months, opening “Potentially the rawest truths that you’ll hear on record for the remainder of the year, the philosophies behind the wordplay in Apex Zero’s almost entirely self-produced début album Reality Provoking Liberation is if anything a reflective experience for any listener.

It is in fact a very in depth appraisal of the album, delving into the finer points of the tracks and is summarized “As stated at the beginning, this is more than an just album to muse too. It’s intention is to bring about a new mentally aware consciousness that’s being prohibited in ways unimaginable.

SoulonFire-SubbaCultcha

UK online music magazine Subba Cultcha covers a wide variety of genres, featuring news on artists, releases, interviews and more

The publication’s Ben Bradford took time out recently to speak with Los Angeles hip hop emcee EtheMadAssassin ahead of the release of his third solo album “Soul on Fire” on 17th September.

Something of a veteran in the independent scene…and not just as part of Cali duo Veteran Assassins…he started out based in Greensboro NC and also spent time in Camden, New Jersey before making the move to the west coast primarily to start the new group with his partner in rhyme Veteran Eye.

The interview is preceded with an overview of the new album itself “if you want to learn of life on the streets, particularly in the 80s and 90s then this is the place to come” adding “This is Assassin rap…where Ethemadassassin comes out fighting for you, fighting for himself, and fighting for people to be together and fighting against the bullshit…its an honest and breathtakingly direct approach, which has come to fruition on his new album ’Soul On Fire’

The interview itself covers details about the single and video for “Can’t Get Enough”, the making of Soul on Fire, working with the producers on the LP, how he formulates the ideas behind his rhymes & lyrics and the general writing process, the formation of Veteran Assassins and the days in when he started out in NC and the artists who acted as his own main influences.

An artist with his own unique style & personality, he sums it up :

I found my pocket a long time ago and I definitely don’t try to emulate anyone, its like being yourself isn’t cool, I have my own way of doing things” read the whole interview HERE

If you like those old soul groove sampled joints with a nod to the good ‘ol days, check out two of his most recent singles:
