They have just published one such feature on Detroit MC Kid Vishis who released his debut album “Timing is Everything” on 22nd July 2104.

The feature focuses mainly on the new release, while providing some background : “Being the younger sibling of an already established musical force can often be of detriment to your success…however, when it comes to Detroit-style rap, with all its grit, Kid Vishis isn’t finding it difficult to escape from Royce da 5’9”.

Describing Kid Vishis’ rhymes as flows with “lyrical flair & poignancy, dropping truth bombs….no gimmicks, just pure vocal dexterity“, the album is recommended for those looking for “real roots rap, with bold, confident rhymes spat over crisp beats

TimingIsEverything-SagittariusHH

It’s now nearly 2 weeks since Detroit MC Kid Vishis released his debut album “Timing is Everything” on Seven 13 Entertainment.

The younger brother of Royce da 5’9″ has enjoyed widespread international media coverage over the past couple of months, most recently by France’s online Sagittarius HH who have just published a new review which can be read HERE

Written in French, the review reflects on the fact that other than his brother on the final track “Coward”, there are no other featured artists, however “It represents his pedigree with an impressive lyrical density to the point that he has no need for guest appearances.” and presenting the explanation that as this is his debut, and clearly a deliberate approach this time around, it may be “because we feel that Timing is Everything is a very personal work.

The review also reflects the fact that the album is not necessarily what is expected, with only one Detroit producer, Mr Porter, providing beats along with California based Chase Moore, Canada’s Nick Zervos and New Jersey’s Nemisis, all of whom are providing a diversity of sound, even touching upon dubstep in the track “In Yo Face”, but never wavering from the core principles of lyricism & rhyme skills expected from a rapper influenced by the best from the Golden Age of hip hop.

Available internationally on Itunes & Amazon in digital format, CD’s of the album can also be bought directly from the label at www.seven13ent.com Check out the official audio stream on Soundcloud

Look out for further press coverage coming from the UK, Europe & USA in the next couple of weeks, including a special video feature in France’s Hip Hop 4 Life in the next few days. Currently in the middle of further media promotional activity as well as putting together tour dates for the UK, Europe & Canada, you can follow him on twitter @KidVishis.

Younger brother of Slaughterhouse member Royce da 5 9, Detroit’s Kid Vishis releases his debut album “Timing is Everything” on 22nd July. Out on Seven 13 Entertainment, it includes production by Mr Porter, Chase Moore (Hippie Sabotage), Nemisis & Nick Zervos and can be pre-ordered with autographed merchandise from www.seven13ent.com

US online Rap Essence are the latest to run the rule over the album, with a track by track analysis which is then summarized :

Kid Vishis really impressed me on here. He changes up the topics and subject matter on almost every song, while still coming with aggressive rhymes and boastful battle raps at the same time. This keeps the album feeling fresh and gives each of the songs its own unique identity, which is something that is missing from a lot of hip-hop albums nowadays

SoulOnFire-BritishHipHopsml

One of the UK’s longest running online platforms specializing in hip hop music & culture, BritishHipHop.com, are the latest to review the new album by Los Angeles based Emcee ethemadassassin “Soul on Fire”

Having spent time in North Carolina and Camden New Jersey, E moved to California in the past few years to team up with Veteran Eye to form Veteran Assassins. Both still maintain solo careers, and “Soul on Fire” is the third solo album by ethemadassassin, following on from Tomorrow Never Comes in 2008.

British journalist Andy Fletcher gives the LP a thorough examination in this.

While its fair to say he finds the inclusion of the track Young & Foolish as incredulous due to its departure in sound from the rest of the album, he then goes on to acknowledge the qualities brought to the table here :

E’s rhyme schemes and flow are tight and hold the album’s momentum. At the start of Sparta he makes use of repetitive rhymes, presumably to maintain his rhyme scheme and flow but it comes off as a small oversight. That isn’t to say that most of his lyrics aren’t well crafted. For the most part, they are. Gratitude is a stand out track with lyrics that will force you to take them in, ‘I’m not the example of living, I’m the spectacle… my nigga Truck took a bullet to his testicles’. These sorts of lyrics pack the content thick and leave a strong, if unpleasant, aftertaste of the world that Ethemadassassin is documenting. This is really where E shines and you’ll hear some of this realist, street approach to lyricism in tracks like lead single Tiger Blade.

For those unfamiliar previously with his work, here’s the video for Walk My Shoes which was playlisted on the UK’s MTV Base and Flava TV
